As for the Manga itself (Never read the WN/LN and never will after reading this).
I honestly think the early chapters has potential. But my guess is the author never laid out any kind of storyboard and just say "F*ck It" and just come up with random shit as the story progresses (evident with "THIS IS NOT MY FINAL FORM DEMON" arc. I assume this is the only work the author have released so far so probably their first time delving into fantasy banishment genre. But yes, TLDR is the entire plot and story is just bad...

Sure "the one i loved died protecting me" is a good weakness but i think it did not translated very well to the story... After all, in the end not a single mention by Athena of the misunderstanding being solved so he was very well ok with breaking a possible couple.

Also very happy with sacrificing Est (you can´t possibly have a guy like Daru, as the author describes him throughout the story and not know that Est would go to the dungeon alone).

And the elf is asking Daru for training... so why Daru didn´t do a thing to fix Est´s problem, it wasn´t even magical... he just needed to stop living behind Athena´s back, he could fix the girls mental issues but could not fix the guy that hides behind someone's back... DOES IT HIT A SORE SPOT!, guy who was saved by the rear line mage (imagine how frozen by fear must he be to the rear line have enough time to realize he was frozen, running to the front and be killed... mind you, everyone else, including Daru, could escape later... the girl died for nothing that´s all I'm saying)

Thanks to the translation team for their hard work and perseverance.
They did excellent work, though the base material turned out quite mediocre.

That said, I do think that the manga was disappointing both in art and story, but not to the point that they deserve such a low rating and ranking. There are so many works on this platform that are significantly worse on both fronts.

This work had a potentially interesting premise, but the author took it in a boring direction, turning it into a generic fantasy hero story. I rate it 5, and I feel like the numerous 1-star ratings are just excessive. Of course, it's subjective and I don't criticize the people who set the score so low, but I think the final score ended too low in comparison to outright trash or barely-above-trash works out there.

(One redeeming trait in my opinion is that the author cut Est's edgelord phase quite short. Chapter 6 was cringe-inducing.)

I remember the WN wasn't that long (100ish chapters), and got completed around the time the manga finished, but i don't think the manga did all that plot, been a while since and i don't think i will go check it out lol

Honestly, this plot would work better as a one shot. I didn't get attached to any one character, but I still appreciate that the series at least ended strong. Definitely doesn't deserve the score that it has now, maybe a 7 at the least a strong 6.5.

I will give it how it should've ended style alternative ending.

Daru sits Est down for a meeting after Est got injured buffing Athena.

Daru: Est, you have got to stop following Athena and give her everything she wants while she's fighting.

Est: Why? She needs me!

Daru: She doesn't need you behind her all the time, she gets worked up about being the best, she can't think straight. (Don't remember her name, mb) Elf girl thinks you bring the team down following Athena around, and she can't fire magic with you in the way. She thinks you're being a burden.

Est looks shocked at being called a burden, and begins to waver, tears forming but not falling.

Daru: I can't also protect you and Elf girl if you're running into the fray, just buffing her. She over relies on you to be there and she can't grow if she doesn't see that she's making mistakes. She could get you killed and she'll be distraught that she couldn't save you, despite you should've been safely behind me and her.

Afterwards, Daru begins to tell a tale of his old party and how he couldn't protect the one girl that meant the world to him because he was being overconfident and got her killed. He points out that Est was going to be Athena's guilt if he dies due to overdoing it for her.

Est understands and starts to reflect, eventually awakening a strength that all his own, and not pampers Athena so much. Athena, oblivious as to why he awakened again, just congratulates him on being awesome.

Daru and Est never reveal why he awakened, but they are going to be just fine.

Bam, story improved.

This manga is bad because it's a generic harem power fantasy (with bonus homophobia) that at first seemed like it was actually going to do something interesting.

This manga is rated so badly despite not being utterly horrible because a bunch of MD readers overidentified with Est and got pissed that he was framed as an antagonist.

Nah, even if he is becoming OP he ain't the MC on this. You'd better be hoping the author doesn't make Est evil again, just because people starting to like him and the Author want to showcase his super amazing Daru again. Or hoping that Daru wouldn't steal Est's party member again just because by some strange reason Est is actually an abusive party leader.

I think they were going for a “I was able to see where i was failing because I didn’t have you all to rely on” sort of thing…when it shoulda been “thanks for not holding me back!”

But in reality you should not think about it too much.

The problem is he assumed she did it out of kindness.

Yea i shouldn't think much on it. But i can't since it's part of the conclusion of the story.

I would've been more happy if he said he's not going to become strong for her, but for his new party.

That he stop hating her, as staying on that path would hold him back.

It's alright to stop hating. But i don't think it's alright to forgive without closure. I don't remember seeing any type of closure in the story.

Holy shit I had no idea this was the 6th lowest rated manga on this site. Like, yeah, the story wasn't the best, but there are so many worse stories available to read here that's actually insane. Thanks for the work translating this though!

wow did not even realized until i read your comment, like come on its an okay manga, Athena did not even get with Darus to provoke this reaction, like i think this is very realistic and mature conclusion to a "I was banished from my party" manga
