Why did the translation go down the drain? Did your proofreader run away?
The translation went down the drain because the dialogue went down the drain. Yes, they really do spend half the chapter making analogies, similes, and talking about random shit. Yes, we really do spend whole pages talking about a brand-new, never-before-seen mountain of soumen in entirely abstract terms. All that happens in this chapter is they complain about all the soumen they have to eat, send off Yuuka, and then, as an afterthought, the jerk who was yelling at Mio sucked up to his boss, who took the fall for him.

I just did the math and I'm depressed... She makes 500k per month. That's about $4566 Canadian dollars.
How cheap is life in Japan, if she can afford her apartment, car and what not while still paying this guy $2.7k CAD each month and have money left over.
Before taxes, I earn more than that each months and can barely survive "eating out" once a week at my workplace's cafeteria (about $15) with a fully paid off used car and renting for ridiculous sums of money.

She actually makes ~530,000 yen a month after taxes and other deductions, which is ~$3500 USD or ~$4800 CAD.
Just doing a quick search, the average cost of living in Tokyo for a single person would apparently be ~126000 yen while, while her apartment appears to be a 1LDK which runs an average of ~121000 yen for a total of ~247000 yen (~$1650 USD/~$2250 CAD). This does exceed her budget after giving him 300000 of it, though from what's said of her shopping habits early on her cost of living is likely a fair bit lower than average and it's entirely possible she went for a low rent area as well. This is also all based on current rates, not ones from 3 or more years back.
Basically, she's giving him every last bit of money that she doesn't need to merely survive.

I feel compelled to offer clarification for page 10 panel 3 he says "taking the shinkansen to new oosaka", this is likely a slight mistranslation? He will have said 新大阪 which does translate to "new osaka", but he's absolutely just referring to the train station on the shinkansen line, hence leaving it as shin-osaka, or just saying "taking the shinkansen to osaka" would be less confusing.

I did a bit of digging, and all of it does check out. I'll get to it right now. But apparently this is going to be a band-aid for fundamentally bad dialogue. A full re-write might be the only way to save this chapter.

Possibility: She's dipping into her savings to fund this. She didn't exactly start working last year. A small chip here and there when she wants to pay for something and have her welcome committee can make up for any difference.

My problem is with the kind of job she's working and how that would compare to the average pay for a similar position in the US, which should pay about twice as much at least (and that's a low estimate.) Even if the cost of living is significantly cheaper in Japan vs the US, $42,000 a year just doesn't make sense (though I know that some companies in Japan pay for employee apartments, but even then that's roughly only $51000 a year which is still on the extremely low end for her position and track record. I guess this is why you typically see characters with parents that work overseas in anime/manga
