Ok my guess is Riku probably has his chronic injury come back up and can no longer play... or something. Idk, doubt it even matters.
Is it too late to ask for an Oregairu angle at this point? (you know... the tennis scene)
There are a lot of overlapping similarities between Ueno and Riku and I wonder if people have noticed.
Manaka's breakup essentially came due to the fact that Riku kept making changes that she didn't like, and said that it doesn't suit him.
Things like ear piercings, and his attitude. And by some twist of fate. These are the characteristics that Ueno does no possess.
Their hair is the same, their overall frame is strikingly similar (unless this is artist's limitations, which i can't blame)
I wonder if Manako is just using Ueno as a way to fill the emptiness she has, which is pretty much before Riku started making radical changes in his personality and apperance.
That seems to be the revolving theme with Manaka and Riku. Emptiness
Either way, I really hope Ueno wins (simply because I fail to see any development in any other outcome)
I feel like, to some extent, Riku deserves some kind of redemption, for what its worth, he is very similar to Ueno. He lost something clearly important to him, and he's desperately trying to fill the void in his heart. By fucking women.... yeah... sigh
I kind of WANT to respect Riku, but its so damn hard. I kinda wish the author gave him a bit more depth. At least for the sake of having SOME dignity, but he literally just seems like a random emo who gets women. Which is really shallow
I don't know how to say it, but it just comes across more as an insult to Manaka, as a character, and the idea that she would ever be romantically interested in such a shallow guy just makes her look both desperate and pathetic
Whereas, if Riku had a bit more complexity to him, at least to a degree where he's worth respecting, it would've reflected off Manaka a bit more.
But overall, I just feel like Manaka's worth as a character is dropping rapidly, and its not even her fault :<
