I’m kind of disappointed with Manaka’s muted response to this new information. Does the why of the bullying justify what Kanako did? If anything it makes it worse because Ueno was completely disposable. She would treat anyone like that or worse to get to Chisaki, complete psychopath behaviour.

Also, these bullies are supposed to be friends but they didn’t send Tsubomi a text about Manaka finding out about them bullying her boyfriend behind her back?

All this and all Manaka thinks is that they’re idiots… dear god if she just joins in on the bullying this entire series was a waste of time.

In one hand, Ueno has been a beacon of hope and change. On the other hand, Uneo came with some baggage that challenges her own friendships. What a tough position to be in especially at their age.

With how mature everyone has been with their feelings, i wont be surprised if they get through this together. The only variable is Chisaki and her unspoken feelings. No clue how it’ll turn, but the drama is great

If you want an in-universe explanation, Kanako wasn't aware that Moka knows about the bullying she and her friends did until Moka told her this chapter. As far as Kanako assumed, Moka caught her kissing Ueno. That's it. As for Chisaki's case, Moka mentioned to Chisaki that she is only aware of her bullying and nobody else in the bully trio. I don't see Chisaki raising the alarm about that.

As for Moka joining in on the bullying...it would be a tone-deaf ending if everyone changes their minds and continue bullying Ueno together with Moka being the newest member of the bully quartet, lol.

I love her muted response because it hits right for "there was so much lost over so little." She realizes there's no proportion at all between the smallness and irrelevance of the motive and the suffering caused by the crime, and that the universe is indifferent to that cruelty. None of it mattered, and not even the suffering was the point. And all you can do is reflect "Haha, seriously? It's so... dumb."

Is it Kafka or Camus? No. Is it even the end of Oldboy? Nah. But it is a very Absurdist moment.
I guess we learned not to do it again, though I'm fucked if I know what we did.

I don't think she's justifying it. It's more like something's changed about her bf's twisted relationship and she wants to know why so she can deal with it appropriately.

That’s just the thing… Kanako did a LOT of things to and with Ueno and never felt anything about doing that, or even considered Ueno was a human being deserving of consideration. Zero empathy, only results, completely detached from the reality of what she was doing. Clinically psychotic behaviour.

Moka learned that, and just thought they were all idiots? I expected more along the lines of “this is way more fucked up than I already thought it was”.
