I had read on info rules that files could not exceed 100MB. Tried to upload a story that started out as 14MB and I have since shrunk to below 9MB. Thought I was misreading the red flag, but it does say "Files cannot exceed 1MB".

you sure it wasn 't a cover you were trying to upload by accident?

Covers for the main entry need to be under 1MB (This is done when creating a new manga entry OR when editing an existing entry). Covers for the covers section need to be under 2MB. Chapters need to be under 100MB.
Each one has a different "Section" they are uploaded to.

Nope, it is a zipped file of a 13 page b/w one-shot. Zipped format of 8.39MB png files.
I just tried again. I am going to the manga tab and clicking on +add and I get the +add new title. This is a one-shot. From what you've said I must be doing something wrong.

you are adding a new manga title IE that page only accepts 1MB and lower covers you haven't yet hit the point to upload a chapter.

Once you pick the cover and complete the manga entry you will then be brought to a page like this https://mangadex.org/title/15616/omachi-shitemasu-shitamachi-wagashi-kurimarudou
a manga with no chapters.

from there click on upload chapter. THAT is where you put in the chapter name, which group scanlated it, and the actual zip file with the chapter.
The section you were trying to do things is used to add a brand new manga that doesn't exist on MD yet.

As long as the manga exists on MD then you can just click the upload chapter to add one. (Its right below the manga's description)
And if it doesnt exist, then what you are currently doing is the process to add it. (But we would be choosing the cover)
