I still ain't forgiving the author for baiting the relationship with Akira so hard and not delivering
it’s kinda remind me of Hataraku Maou Sama tbh. the author made MC to have best chemistry with certain girl which definitely many readers will think they’re the best pair in the series, but it got shafted near endgame just because a certain girl has plot armor/author’s fav girl. the best girl just okay-ing with that and vanished from the rest half of the chapter like a mere NPC.

idk why some authors like to think that way and playing favorism. i really wanna believe the reason why Komachi won was for author’s self-satisfaction due to the character that has similar trait to her from previous work to have happy ending this time. but man… really why must in this way.

Don't think of it as not delivering, think of it as upgrading 😛

Are they roommates or "roommates"?

We need an Akira and Satsuki ending. Ryoko-sensei, pull a Bokuben!

A shame that we didn't see former vice Prez and Seo. I still wonder what Ryoko tried to do with Seo. Her character and motivations... made no sense.

Thanks for the TL!
Check the volume extras too. They are definitely "roommates".

The mangaka wrote the story to hold together on plot, character arcs, and themes, not to satisfy your sense of entitlement to a specific pairing becaming the endgame.

Like, this isn't someone playing favorites between your friends to set the ones they like together. These are fictional characters created by the author to tell this particular story. The author isn't doing wrong by anyone by not having two fictional characters who you ship end up together.

And it's frankly good for the author to just ignore fan shipping and write the story they want to write. Stories are better when they are driven by what the creators want and what the story dictates instead of fan response.

and thus that’s why i wrote it on the few last paragraph about believing that the ending was for author’s self-satisfaction from previous work. story might be not for satisfy us, but criticism is still valid since the reader reads author’s work.

i do know the author’s intention for make this ending was to bring the very first girl to be the very close support for MC. but the problem that made some readers think it must be Akira is because she was the one who mostly be there with Satsuki during her crisis time than Komachi did. it won’t be a problem if only author decided to make more chapters about Komachi before going to final arc of her and explaining the whole incident that happened at school, and perhaps a bit closing about Satsuki and Akira friendship at the end so we won’t think that author suddenly abandon Akira halfway of the final arc.

i bet even the fan shipper (specifically Akirabros) will understand if author could make better closure between Akira-Satsuki-Komachi before final arc and epilogue, they won’t yapping like this.

What a weird entitlement. No, a ship you like not being canon isn't valid criticism.

Ok, but, like, there was never a romance there between Satsuki and Akira. They were always best friends where there were romantic overtones to Satsuki and Komacchi from the start and she never, like, stopped being a love interest the whole story. It would be frankly bad writing for her to end up with Akira.

the reader has right to make criticism, but it’s author who’ll decided either to take it or leave it. we’re just expressing our opinion to what we read, either it’s about shipping or not.

even if the viewpoint isn’t about romantic relationship, friendship is also still a thing. i’ll say the bad thing wasn’t lied to the endgame relationship but about the character treatment.
imagine being a well written character who’s a close friend of MC for many chapters but part of her screentime got cut for the sake of certain character that got rushed development for catching up with the ending. it’s just kinda disappointing about how author treat Akira in this way after all of these times even if Satsuki ended up with Komachi.

tbh, i wouldn’t mind with the ending that author decided “if only” we get to see more of Komachi’s chapters without rushing to the end. having proper portion of screentimes between Satsuki-Komachi and Satsuki-Akira won’t lead to this feeling of disappointed.

I'm really happy we got some closure between Satsuki and her dad. Rereading this final volume now that it has an epilogue. It doesn't feel as rushed as it did before, though it still feels pretty rushed.

I can empathize with the author though. In the volume bonuses he makes it clear that even he had a hard time figuring out where the story was headed. Which makes perfect sense.

I'm still very happy with this manga overall. A big thank you to Beltaro for the extremely high quality translation!

Well, I guess the one benefit of these vague endings is that we can interpret them how we want.
So akira and satsuki are dating. She's just leaving to catch a flight to an international cooking competition. That's why they have to cook for themselves tomorrow.
And komaki and satsuki are just platonic roommates, they are staying together so satsuki can keep her power in check.
Still want more Akira in the epilogue though...

You understand that Akira isn't, like, a real person who the author can treat poorly, right? She isn't your friend who's honor you're defending. She's a fictienal character.

bro, it’s not about defending fictional character as real person, but it’s about the author’s writing consistency in the story they made. you just make it feel like people don’t have the right to give criticism even though many feel not satisfied with some plot in author’s work, and ofc giving criticism here doesn’t mean author will read it (unless if they aware that some people discuss about it here too).

even if we aren’t talking about Akira, we still have several questions such as what’s happening to Seo, Vice Prez, and other characters after incident and timeskip.

i don’t hate the author and their works, it just that sometimes there’s a time where we can feel disappointment toward them via their writing consistency. even to their previous work i also feel this way, but not as bad as the recent one.

I really miss this manga.
I know the ending's controversial (because it barely constitutes an ending with how many loose ends are skipped over including the crux of the plot) but this was a decent sendoff. Hard not to feel happy for Satsuki even if she certainly got her social dysfunctions from her dad. And happy Komachi gives me some real reformed Tokiko vibes.

Satsuki calling Komachi by her given name (something she only ever did with Akira), practically living with her in a one-bed apartment, planning their futures together, Komachi's newfound joy at anything to do with Satsuki, bringing cooked meals to extended family, sharing cute little domestic moments...
Yep, they're roommates.
Kinda totally blew off the yuri with Akira which was clearly where everything was going but yeah.... roomates

Which is why you're complaining that a ship that had no real basis in the text didn't come to pass? Sure thing. Keep telling yourself that,

funny enough you keep telling me that i defend the ship instead of as individual character itself. yeah sure whatever even if i tell Satsuki x Komachi was okay but not as individual you’ll keep saying that i complaining about the ship kek

It's not about a ship not being canon, it's about the fact that komachi just did not get the development and focus she needed for this endgame to feel satisfying from a character perspective. It feels out of left field because she all but exited he story for a good 3/4 of it after her initial arc and being the scapegoat for the other girl, meanwhile Akira was there the whole time and got plenty of character focus before being unceremoniously thrust from the story near the end
Frankly my problem isn't necessarily that Akira didn't "win" it's that komachi needed more time and effort put into making us believe her and satsuki were an option in the first place. For komachi this ending works, because at the very end when they finally brought her back in and started fleshing her out it was clear that thematically she needed someone like satsuki
But for satsuki the ending only really works on the level of 'she feels compelled to help everyone she comes across'. There's some groundwork and potential here with komachi being the first to believe her about her power, but again that needed to be explored and expanded on beyond it just being a fact about the story

I don't get what everyone is complaining about with Akira. Sure if you preferred her over Komako you'd still be annoyed but to act like her role in the epilogue is her being shafted just misunderstands the point of the epilogue. It's supposed to wrap things up and give us a peek into Satauki's life and it's very clear that Akira is the most involved in Satsuki's life after Komako. If she wasn't involved anymore she wouldn't be mentioned (like Seo or the VP). Honestly Akira's whole sequence have me OT3 vibes especially since she is the one keeping them alive and not dying due to scurvy.
the problem is Akira was all the time the most involved with Satsuki and they was cleary making Satsuki having the most important person as Akira not Komako this is the entire problem we mostly talk about this series make 360 on Satsuki love interest when all the series we see that it would be Akira then one chapter beffore end and is Komako

How many times people told you that it's not about shipping\romance. It's about bad character handling and writing issues. Doesn't matter if they friends or lovers or something else. But you keep arguing with voices in your head.

I'm somehow like 8 days late...how did I miss this...?? Still, better late than never.
Didn't know there'd be an epilogue. A long one on to boot! It's nice to see how their lives turned out and to see Satsuki and her father started to reconcile. They still got a long way to go, but they're taking the first step, so that's great.
God, I love this series so much despite all of its flaws.
Thanks a lot for all your hard work translating this!! I look forward to the mangaka's next work.
