VR food

Do you recognize that scene in a VRMMO anime/manga where characters spend in-game money on virtual food? Isn't that just a complete waste of resources? I mean, you won't even get full so what's the point on wasting gold on things like that when you can grind 5000 hours on an OP gear?

Idk all situation I've seen VR foods are when the characters are just chilling.

I think the purpose is to imply that the tech is so advanced that they can simulate all sorts of taste, while still fulfilling it’s main purpose (being a recovery type consumable)

Yeah but I doubt players irl would spend money on practically nothing. I kinda get it in SAO since they're trapped in there and fake food is the closest to real food they can get but I can't really think of any valid reason VR food should be bought after the SAO arc in the anime and literally everywhere else where the characters aren't trapped.
