The light novel story is serialized in Kodansha's story website Kakuyomu. The author's story index is at https://kakuyomu.jp/users/skylight

Looking at the story, the last light novel update the author has is in August 2022. Therefore, I can only assume it was not popular enough and became abandoned. However, the website has quite a few chapters updates beyond the ones officially published in the serial magazine. I guess those were the ones the author had already done before being notified the publisher was cancelling. You can go read them and use MTL on the text story. The story URL is:

Honestly, I would have been disappointed that there weren't actual math questions... The photo is very nicely taken, though.
This actually would be a good kind of exercise for mages, training them to keep their spells going even when the unexpected happens. Really neat idea that I'm surprised I haven't seen before.
