As a fellow latin american. Yeah. It's messed up how much my culture can be about appearance and being seen in good light. Mental health is still so stigmatized and ignored or demonized, and its all as you say, its a bit on the other extreme but just like peeps dont wanna stand out for being exemplary, peeps dont want to appear as though they need help or certain allowances or accommodations. It's rough, people should help people, people should look towards things that are actually harmful to others and address it instead of making up all these ways in which being different from norm or such is the big problem it is made out to be.
Yups. Its like the Japanese, some Latino, and conservative countries will care only about looks instead of the person's character. What if someone dresses up different than you but is always giving help to less fortunate?

I don't think I will ever understand why they look down on mental health when its health. Its supposed to help you like the doctors. Why are they looking down on doctors....

There are a lot of problems on both sides of the line. I think you are right about focusing to help others and calling out when harm is being done. Hopefully Japan and our Latino cultures can understand this one day.

Anyways doot doot, Haruka my beloved. Montana my Beloved. Everyone in this story my beloveds.
All are little angels. No wonder the old man doesn't want to be separated from them.

I got into reading the WN, and I've got to say, I'm impressed, surprised, and a little disappointed at how much has been cut out of the story.

To give you an idea at how quickly this is going: this chapter is basically chapter 134 in the WN.

Impressed: There is a lot of additional content in the WN that doesn't really do anything more than pad out the world or give us more character interactions. What has been cut so far has not been essential, and there have been changes made that compress certain events in the WN in clever ways.

Surprised: Lets just say that the WN raws are probably at 1400+ at this point. This is the kind of advanced pacing you often see in promotional manga, but it's a dedicated manga. And quite frankly, it probably needed to be this way. If the manga did stick to the WN, it would probably get the ax since it's pacing would be too slow.

Slight disappointment: There's certainly some context and a lot of minor events missing that I think would have been nice to have. For example: the fighter who Al first gets into a tussle with actually fought Haruka at some point before Al signed up for the tournament, because he asked who the strongest was and everyone said it was her.

The dude lets Haruka have the first hit, and she decides to try some practice swings. She looks worse than an amateur, but the speed with which her fists are going spook the man into actually taking the punch seriously, which saves his life because next thing he knows is he meets the wall of a house a few blocks down and loses consciousness.

Haruka heals him, but panics since he won't wake up, thus shaking him so severely she nearly kills him and has to heal him again. This time, she heals him thinking about a miraculous healing.

So when Noct, in this chapter, asks Haruka about how she feels about the burden of her healing, it was originally asked about the difference of burden between healing by accelerating growth and miraculously restoring people, since Haruka revealed she had done both. There's also the "reverse time" kind of healing.

Honestly, there's a funny scene that's coming up that might be skipped over. I get why, because it's a small detail that doesn't add anything to the plot or character growth, but it is funny.

The amount of smooth brains in here complaining about what I said is crazy :wooow:

You guys ACT like haruka is NOT a old man that was isekaid into this body :02:

FFS they even SHOWED that this dude has had this NPC mentality since the START even in his old life, instead of helping others he just chose to ignore them getting bullied because like I said the JP society berates those that are different hence why you get bullied hence why its bad to save others getting bullied and why they chose to ignore them, its been a thing MC HAS been trying to OVERCOME but that mentality is still STRONG on mc hence why its practically JP brainwashing :shamihuh: heck its in several other manga's too

But what can I expect from mangadex comments where 90%(I'm being generous) of the people in here have reading comprehension issues and just skims by the chapter AND later on asks why MC didn't do something when the chapter CLEARLY stated why they didn't do something :smug:
pls develop reading comprehension mangadex users
Spamming emotes and acting so smug doesnt make you look smarter tbh. If you really think that I suggest stopping before you embarass yourself in public irl. It only makes you look more stupid.

Also why can't adults be stuck with mental problems (noting also that she's in a unique circumstance that's not realistic in the first place)? Is this really exclusive problem to kids? I could at least see an example rn that adult can be mental as well ngl.

I get what you're saying because there's a huge mountain of manga that absolutely fall into the trap of no-one ever changing and that gets super frustrating, but I think that's a bit unfair here because Haruka has consistently shown some level of growth and an attempt to at least push at her boundaries. You don't lose a lifetime's habit overnight.

Plus, there was that thread where Haruka was wondering if she even 'deserves' to exist or whether her body was literally taken from someone else, which is kind of a dark thought to try to move past

Oh, I'm not speaking relative to other manga, but speaking purely about this one. I don't begrudge Haruka's wanting of a normal life or having a timid nature—just that time and time again in the story, her friends do go out of their way to essentially assuage her of her fears, yet every time her mentality never seemingly processes it. They take no umbrage for her abundance of strength; take great effort to connect with her despite her intentional distance; in every arc I can remember of this story, they've supported her—yet, when it comes to her internal thoughts, they barely impact. It's very true you don't lose a lifetime's habit overnight, but—this is just my personal opinion—I do believe Haruka's gone living in this other world long enough to try to at least intentionally pursue a more positive mindset. (And this latest chapter feels like a relapse more than any.)

I don't, of course, expect Haruka to turn around and become a cocksure woman, very confident in her skills—that would absolutely be out of character. I'm sure there's plenty of other ways to turn things around.

(Just to be very clear, I don't believe this ruins the story. Just noting an aspect I don't much favor.)

What you said on your second paragraph definitely piqued my interest! I do hope that's something that also gets touched on more in the future. (And, from the spoilers I've inadvertently come across reading through this thread, it definitely does—so that's something to look forward to!)

While I'm not really fond of smugly knocking people's reading comprehension skills either (doubly when I'm partly sure it's a knock on me, hah) I think you guys might be on the same page?

WN 'chapters' can be little more than a couple of paragraphs or a bullet point list of dialogue fragments.
While this is certainly true in many cases, in this case, the chapters are fairly competently written and about 1000 words long, give or take a few words.

I've read over 300 chapters, it's been consistent. If these 300+ chapters have been any indication, the whole story should be approximately 1.4 million words. For reference: all the Harry Potter books combined are a little more than 1.08 million words.

I've read my fair share of WN slops so I'm kinda used to it. But tbh, I don't really mind those short chapters. These aren't proper publications/serializations so it's all good
