At this point for as much as I'd like Hinako to live, I think it'd be pretty odd to not fulfill the pledge and truly end as a tragedy, especially considering the history of lesbian romance being associated with cannibalism and such.

Also I just want to see Shiori totally break down at the end tbh

As well as Shiori saying 'In that case, it'd all be meaningless' when Hinako asks if just a finger could be left behind for her family grave in Ch. 41, she clearly understands the full committal behind her words. Staying very true to her plan of having 'chosen the [Hinako] of tomorrow, who's within my reach' (Ch. 31)

the stipulations of the promise is that when hinako "smiles and is happy just like before" then shiori will eat her. i dont think hinako's ever going to be the exact same as she was when shiori met her for the first time -- that doesn't necessarily mean that hinako's never going to be happy again, it just means that she's changed. the theme of change is so prevalent throughout the manga as a whole that i cant help but think that hinako's never going to be able to become who she once was (but thats ok). of course, shiori doesn't realize this since she doesnt know how humans work. thats what I hope happens but I of course could be wrong and coping

I actually pity Shiori the more the story progresses.
