I was about to comment this but to add shit on to the mix, this is a stretch and less likely but maybe he says that he couldnt understand because he plays sports, thanks to his male physique, he is able to achieve higher. The author did spent some panels dedicated to show the difference in strength. Either way, were there hints that Mao likes Nagisa? or is she gay for Mino?
