You guys are doing your best and we definitely appreciate the effort. I’ve noticed it’s been very slow lately, which is a bit frustrating because I’ve picked up a couple of serious and I really am enjoying but it’s hard to read one page every minute or two. So I’ll just stop for a little bit, give other people chances to read, and definitely be back in a couple weeks when things have eased up a bit.

I can confirm that if the slow-down is a regional issue, it's extremely wide-range, as I'm having severe issues in Toronto (southern Canada, very close to the border.)

I'm in California. It takes 20+ seconds to load 3-5 pages, it's a bit too unbearable so I'm just going to use another site until imaging loading times become usable.

MD has been unbelievably slow in AUS for weeks now and it’s not getting any better 😑

yep been totally unusable in aus for weeks, pretty much have to wait until less people stop coming to the site because it doesn't work for it to be functional again 😞

It has never been this bad before, even during DDoS attacks.
I'm just checking my follows and reading the manga on other sites, only using the comment section, sometimes.
It's a shame because this used to be a very fast site.
Guess it really is overloaded with people.

On that note, thank God for the terrible aggregators out there. At least they serve as backup.

Will say I -like many others- are looking forward to the servers being updated once it happens.

Edit: Not sure what happened, but within the past few minutes, the site speed skyrocketed back to pretty much normal speed again. Here's to it possible staying that way.

Edit 2: And... it's back to slow. :(

Are the people in this thread the reason I can’t read? Telling everyone to use the US servers... I am physically in the US, and the site has been utterly unreadable the past couple days. It was fine for a brief period of time after the servers switched, but I literally cannot read anything, whether old or brand new, on mangadex right now, because the images will not load.

I'm looking forward to when the site has stopped moving at a snails pace.

Now, while this is frustrating, lemme tell some of the younger people here a horror story. Fair warning: if you didn't get onto the internet until the early 2000s, you might not be able to sleep after reading this.

Once upon a time... The internet was always this slow to load. Everywhere. Every page. Every image. Even porn download (and we didn't even have HD yet). Every song. And if the phone company/ISP was nice enough to accidentally publish your dedicated 56K dial-up line like GOD DAMN IDIOTS every telemarketer call that connected would knock you offline and you'd have to spend upwards of 5 minutes reconnecting sometimes and start over loading a page again. Back in the days of Limewire, Kazaa, ect. I remember taking the better part of a full day to download some movies (that were SD and often filmed with a potato that had recording features with half the screen out of frame and people walking in front of it) and I thought that was blazing fast back then.

I kinda find it difficult to believe that Mangadex is always slow including ridiculous what-should-be lower use times (It's 12:30 AM here on the East Coast of America and it's like ~6 AM or earlier in Europe - how the fuck could there be that many people browsing to slow down the server THIS DAMN MUCH?), but, not much can be done on our end unless we all donate a shitload of money to update the servers... which will take time to implement even if we did.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents: with the new data-saver option (i.e. compressed images) in the reader I went from 5-10 minutes per image down to about 10-20 seconds per page. I'd recommend trying that option alongside any combination of methods and see if it improves loading times any for you. Obviously we're all taxing the servers pretty hard right now so this may at least be a decent workaround temporarily.

Seems like the current problem with slow loading is for old uploads as new ones seem to load normally. Don't know if it's because they aren't back in cache yet or what

Is the server capping my download speed at 16/32 KB/s? Took me over an hour to download one chapter.
I don't think the data saver is working. One page I downloaded with FMD while not logged in is 15 MB.

Honestly, past couple of days, the speed has dramatically improved. I went from taking anywhere from half a minute to several minutes for an image to load properly to practically back to normal. Could be the issues some people are having now are more where they are located rather than the site itself.
