I get that you aren't satisfied with "trans culture" but the staggering, overwhelming majority of "trans culture" has fuck all to do with the psycho twitter hate squad. There's a lot more in common with gender non-conforming individuals across the world than you would care to admit. I don't think the majority of people on either side of the ocean feel like there's a huge disconnect here. As best I can tell, the issue is more of self-expression than identity in both places. The biggest difference probably is the level of societal acceptance, which is much lower in Japan. But it's really all about a basic level of respect, honestly.

As a woman who knows trans individuals IRL, I don't feel threatened by their bathroom use. It isn't safe for trans or gender non-conforming males to use a men's restroom in public. I don't really feel the need to explain that. The transwomen are probably more afraid of us than we are of them. Either way, I think this stuff is about common sense. The common sense answer is probably that the option of private changing rooms and restrooms are better in these cases for all parties involved, because there are very few trans people anyway.
