What do you do with your old technology?

All of my old games consoles still get used and have a spot where they are easily accessible to be hooked up to the TV.

Old computers are just sitting around collecting dust. One of them still has my copy of Photoshop along with all of my resources (brushes, renders, font packs) on it that I've been meaning to boot up and transfer that over for longer than I would like to admit (screw your subscription model Adobe).

Old cell phones..... are sitting around somewhere. I know there's a LG G5 with a bloated battery lying around in my room, I just don't remember where and that's actually kind of scary.

i just recently picked up a panasonic box tv with a built in vcr. found it on the curb after a rain storm. i opened it up to make sure it didn’t have any moisture, and plugged it in. it plays my tapes ezpz. free tv. i don’t get rid of things unless i can’t fix them. there’s always a youtube tutorial for your needs. waste not want not. don’t buy new, buy used. it is also cost effective and fun. AND LEST I FORGET MY TV ALSO PLAYS THE RADIO. sick as hell man.

you ought to find that. that is a straight fire hazard. battery fires are no joke.

Phones and tablets: destroyed and disposed of. Can't be recycled.
Desktops and laptop PCs: Anything older than Ivy Bridge is disposed. Too power hungry for their own good and not usable with Windows 11. Even Linux will struggle with some of them.
Consoles: Keep if still working, dispose if not.

depends on the size, but usually it's just wherever i can find any space lol. e.g. i have laptops in a cabinet and a monitor on the floor

i scrape and scrounge around for the parts and pcbs to desolder. then I throw away the useless plastic-y enclosures.
I loooooove knowing gymbros who work in IT i can get so much old shit for free just by making them food every now n then

it's usually cheaper just to buy the IC's i desolder on digikey in bulk but i like skimming around datasheets for obscure NEC/motorola shit

used monitors are the bane of me and old technology
  1. i can't disassemble them unless i want to get mercury poisoning and a buttton of electrostatic discharge
  2. i always have to buy an amazon monitor arm cause the stock ones will be shit
  3. business monitors have a really inconvienient but neat way of putting the cables in where i have bend and twist my neck to put them in
  4. most are usually are just shitty TN/IPS 60hz monitors so whats the point???
