Of course, he probably would have turned her down anyways, because he was dead right. Chun-Ja never cared about him specifically. What she cared about was the burst of emotion that she had never once felt before. He just represented that in her mind as the source of it.
People are complicated, relationships even more so. The person you thought you liked might be different than you expected, or maybe exactly as you expected in a way that's less enjoyable than you thought. What's more, people aren't static. The person you were yesterday may not be as compatible as the person you are today.
In their case, her ex was changed by Chun-Ja's treatment of him (and whatever happened off screen) and Chun-Ja was changed over the course of her journey. The person her ex became was mature enough to recognize what Chun-Ja was going through, and the person that Chun-Ja became was now mature enough to accept his response and move on with some level of dignity. Maybe she'll hook up permanently with this new guy, or maybe not. But she's willing to try, and in my book, we call that an absolute win.
