I think it's good that it's ending instead of getting axed. "Quit while you're ahead" as they say. Plus, author probably wants to spend more time with his daughter until she's old enough. So it's understandable.

hope this gets an anime adaptation so the author can survive on merch sales while raising his daughter

What if he ends this manga to take some time with his family, only to announce something like "see you soon in the next part" that would be a slight time skip with them as a couple

I guess taking care of his daughter takes a priority.
Still a bummer. Makiba is one of my favorite male leads in the whole genre.
Agreed, I would even go so far as to say Fuyuko is one of my favorite female leads as well. They're an incredibly strong pairing and it's a shame that it's all going to be over soon.

Feeling kinda upset about this. I get it, but still. I thought it wouldn't end before like, chapter 80-90.

See, I don't doubt that the author will come up with something fun to wrap up the story. My working theory is that in the final chapter we'll learn Makiba was even more anxious than Fuyuko about this whole thing all along and it'll be this wonderful morale about how you should put yourself out there and talk to people more and be open about your feelings yadda yadda.

But after this weird decision to have Makiba get called away, have his grandpa die AND then skip to him getting the flu within the same chapter, suddenly having the finale happen in 1 chapter just...feels really poorly thought out?

I get that the author probably decided to kinda phone it in to focus on his family for now, or ran out of ideas, or got bored of the story and characters (after all, that's the longest series he's done without featuring some sort of monster, so I guess maybe he's itching to get back to something more on the fantasy side), or it's editorial meddling or something, but still, I just feel really bummed out. I would've preferred for the series to go on another several-month hiatus than just, y'know. End like this.

On the bright side, hey, at least there are still a few untranslated extras out there. I know Volume 2 has this short story about Fuyuko and Sumika from Sumika's perspective(?) and have no clue what vols 3 onwards got, so I'm really looking forward to TLs of these one day, too (Fingers crossed there's a Higa focus chapter among them lord PLEASE).

Thanks for the chapter. I don’t think many people know that the author is effectively doing his part time as he is a universe professor as well.
