This noble is pulling a fast one. 2-1 says he sends goons to steal the mirage fox while Yajin is drinking. 3-1 says Emma is hurt or murdered in the act. 5-1 says Puppy gets kidnapped (again.) And 10-1 odds say Yajin wakes up married to the Baron's daughter and he's enlisted with the guard.

I think you read things wrong. It doesn't say that the fox gives self healing, it's the armor that they're making for him will get an enchant that self repairs. The fox is a high value material and that it can cover the cost for enchanting his armor that's being made for him.

Well, that's probably correct, but it was ambiguously phrased and the context really didn't help. Since "it", the subject in the previous sentence referred to the material, and the next sentence did not introduce anything else regarding "it", I thought it was continuing to refer to the materials. Moreover, they brought, out of the blue, the information that "it" would allow the enchantment of self-healing on the armour. However, they never discussed that enchantment before, so why bring it up specifically? Why not enchantments of extra hardness or resistance to magic or anything else that could be enabled if "it" in that sentence instead just referred to the large amount of rewards that could be generated from the material? We had been introduced before to the concept that some monster material came with special properties so I thought perhaps that enchantment was specifically enabled by the mirage fox material.

But yeah, it definitely makes more sense, considering how willing he is to process the material and sell it off for gold, that he just needs lots of gold to get that enchantment. I also thought it was weird that mirage fox material would be specifically linked to enchantment of self-healing rather than extra stealth or something.

I don't know why he wants to get the workshop to make the mirage fox material into a tippet though. Sure, he might be able to profit more by selling the finished good rather than just the material, but if he's the one in possession of the material, rather than the lord of the city, then a third party stealing the material from the workshop, or the workshop just selling off the finished product instead of returning it to him so that he can sell it, or just various powerful people deciding that he should hand it over so that they can present it to the lord, all become possibilities because he lacks power since he doesn't have anyone backing him.

Well, we'll see what happens.

He's also in a position where various factions are basically going "Join us or die" AND he's a secret fugitive from abroad. If he can get a noble house to cover for him, it would improve his situation dramatically. His instincts were to flee the town and he's only staying because of how OP the armor will be + sunk cost thinking.

Money would be good too as he spent most of his money on the armor, but now his armor is already paid for. More money isn't strictly necessary since, if he gets the armor, he can go survive in the wilderness and rebuild his finances. He would likely flee with the pelt if all he had to gain was money, as he can try to sell it later.

The Japanese is equally ambiguous to me, I didn't try to put any spin on the conversations. My assumption had been that the 'component' used for enchanting Yajin's equipment can be removed without damaging the pelt. But it does seem logical for it to be sold for the money, or to curry favour with the lord. And as always with Yajin Tensei, there are also some jumps in time between pages that aren't always spelled out.
