Both; If he was at something like [Mental Fortitude III], then now he's [Mental Fortitude IV], along with gaining [Illusion Resistance I].

Ok, so I read the chapter again and literally. Even with provoking the parent to attack in rage it still had wits enough to use doppelganger for attack and didn't go for a kill until Yajin had committed to one of the clones. So if Yajin hadn't swiped for a clone then he wouldn't have gotten the chance for a killing blow.

Like the amount of thinking to do, in the situation, like is very very impressive. Like the breakdown, the blood diversion from his eye, the strategy then execution. 🤌🏿

Yeah, sometimes authors write themselves into a conner and things like this happen for the story to proceed.
"Damn i really made a magic beast that can go invisible and directly override your brain senses, how do i make him win...?"

Maybe a sequence like Yajin baiting the fox into further tormenting him while setting up some kind of trap that would make the fox revels its true location moments before hitting him so he can counter attack could have worked too.
The trap even could have been an asspull, would still seem less of one than this sequence.

Still an entertaining series tho, and he had to get a power up at some point so it is what it is i guess.
