IDK what counts as 'old ass' these days, but Mass Effect is defo my favorite game of all time.
Of course you would say this, you have Tio-chan as your profile picture.Trails in the Sky, if you consider 2004 games to be old
Oh, you're in for a wild ride. I've got all of them up to the latest release, and geez, the story and worldbuilding is great. But yes, first games in the arcs are usually a bit slower to take off, but when it does.... Hoooo boy. XD@Criscore
Looks interesting. Gonna add to my library next time it goes on sale (Steam).
DIVINE ASSAULT! NIBELUNG VALESTI!Valkyrie Profile
Hehhh, I tried those, but couldn't finish, must be the monster-rearing parts I didn't like. I prefered the "Story" games instead. It was more fun.Digimon world 1, 2 and 3 for me. dunno why I keep coming back to these, eventhough I played most of the games you guys mention.
The boss music.The Veldt soundtrack
It is a sequel and it's not. There's a chronology to this series, see, and between Cold Steel and Sky, there was the Crossbell duology, which they finally brought to the West on Steam. Before that, us fans had to use fan translation patches. After Trails of Cold Steel, you have Trails into Reverie, which basically gives closure to all the character arks until then. (So yes, you see Estelle, the Crossbell police force, and the characters from Cold Steel) The newest arc takes place in the Calvard Republic, which is the country to the East of the Erebonian Empire, where Cold Steel takes place.2024 now, so yes it is old as ... most of in the thread, if not older.
I guess the sequel of that is Trails of Cold Steel, which I played.
Must be licensing bugs, you know people are bugged not caring what they are marketing. I remember buying a chinese conditioner branded as shampoo. There actually is a Tales of Destiny 2 on PS2 in JP, you can find a fan translation on the internet. Eternia was called ToD2 in America for some reason.
I hate the idea of mons having level caps and needed to fuse them to become some rando low level monster with mixed moves but increased level cap.Hehhh, I tried those, but couldn't finish, must be the monster-rearing parts I didn't like. I prefered the "Story" games instead. It was more fun.
Solid choices. I played the FFs since the 5th or so, up until the 13rd. I do recommend you play the 5th ONLY for Gilgamesh (aka Benkei) He has the most kickass theme which has been remade multiple times since then:KOTOR and KOTOR 2.
FF9 was the my first hoop into FF.
Skyrim was bestThe Elder Scrolls and Fallout.
Dagger fall counts as three decades, so there are older people here."old ass RPG"
everybody names games from the last two decades
I'm gonna go with Slash'em. A game so great that it will probably never be finished (in development for 33 years now, if you count the development of the nethack version it's based on) and you need to read the source code to find the true ending.
I played Morrowind, a little bit of Oblivion. Skyrim is obviously better than its predecessors, but Morrowind will always have a soft spot in my heart. "YOU N'WA!"Skyrim was best
Have you played its sequel, Chrono Cross? I loved the tropical island theme, and overall the music was good. Overworld theme:PS1, SNES, or even older more esoteric console.
Chrono Trigger is probably objectively the best I’ve played, but I got most entertainment from Star Ocean 2 on PSX.
Ah yes, a true connaisseur. I played the 6th and up, and played some of the remakes. =/ Oh, I think I did play the one that featured Rizna, that's 5D, IIRC.All Rance series, which started in 1989 and ended in 2018 (15 titles in total).
Good choice. I'm just sad about what happened to Dark Dawn, which means we'll never truly know the end.The Golden Sun saga
Speakin' of, I've discovered the series around the 7th game (on the PS1) and haven't really let off since then.Good old 1st Dragon Quest
Ah, good times, good times! I remember playing Saga Frontier 1 and 2 as well. I remember always failing near the end, until I had to look up that you needed to follow a certain path to unlock the "good ending", or you were locked into an unwinnable fight against the fake Gustave and his Iron Knights. It always felt like the weapon skill unlocks were hard to get, even if you knew their composition for "combo" mode. -.- Also, LP being limited made some fights hard... >_>Gonna echo Chrono Trigger, but also
I have some pretty fond memories of going over to a friends house and we'd take turns playing Grandia 2, otherwise like, Saga Frontier 2, your Final Fantasy 7 and 8, and I think it was Legend of Legaia that was basically a turn based fighting game? I got Septerra Core on steam, but haven't gotten around to giving it a go.
Ah shit, buddy, Jade Cocoon.
