★ Volume 2 continues from the previous story, where the Silvery Gray party accepts a quest to escort a merchant together with the Windmill party, while also heading back to the Holy Capital. They already know that this merchant and the Windmill party are planning something shady to trap Silvery Gray.
The Windmill party, except for Luely, is actually fake. They used to be normal adventurers who were tricked by bandits in the same way. Luely is forced to trick other adventurers because her older brother and her two party members, Cain and Roid, are being threatened with death. Because of that, even with a huge amount of guilt, she has no choice but to deceive Wolka and his party.
Wolka, the Silvery Gray members, Anze, and Loshu already know about the merchant’s evil plan. So they all pretend to fall for the trap and follow the criminals all the way to their hideout. They do this to save Luely and take down the bad guys.
★ After entering the forest area, the horse carriage they are riding suddenly goes out of control, causing Wolka and Lizel to be separated from Atri and Yulitia. Loshu, the Holy Knight who guards Anze, tries to chase after the runaway carriage, but several bandits block his path.
★ Wolka, who has lost one eye and one of his legs, is judged as weak by the bandits. They plan to take Wolka hostage so his party members will not be able to fight back.
But when Wolka is threatened with a sword while still sitting down, he immediately uses his sword-drawing skill and cuts off both hands of the fake Cain and Roid. Lizel then uses her magic to blow away the other bandits surrounding their carriage.
★ In the other carriage, where Atri and Yulitia are, they also manage to kill the bandits surrounding them and quickly head toward Wolka’s location.
★ The merchant, whose name is Stafio, gets cornered and uses a scroll to activate spirit magic. The spirit magic he activates allows him to summon Glutonia.
Black hands appear from the magic circle and devour everything nearby. The members of Silvery Gray manage to avoid the reach of Glutonia’s hands, but Luely is not so lucky.
Luely cannot escape in time, and one of her arms is touched by Glutonia, leaving her badly injured. Stafio immediately moves toward Luely and takes her hostage.
★ Stafio says that Luely is one of the bandits’ accomplices because she helped them trap adventurers. Those words make Luely’s regret grow even stronger, until she falls into despair.
★ Lizel uses high-tier barrier magic to protect them from Glutonia’s attacks. Even though Glutonia’s hands can be destroyed, new hands keep appearing again and again, and their numbers keep increasing.
Wolka cannot just let Luely stay as Stafio’s hostage, so he takes a sword-drawing stance. His concentration becomes so sharp that he can only see his target, even though the target is outside the reach of his sword.
But in his heart, Wolka feels like he can reach Stafio, just like when he defeated the Grim Reaper.
Wolka successfully uses his sword-drawing technique, Silver Lightning, an attack that can cut through anything and ignore distance. The Silvery Gray party is shocked because this is the same technique Wolka used to save all of them during the fight against the Grim Reaper.
★ The side effect of using that skill makes Wolka’s whole body hurt badly, especially since he uses it while having only one real leg and relying on a prosthetic leg.
Wolka manages to save Luely and receives information about where Luely’s older brother and party members are being held.
Wolka immediately asks Luely to go with him to meet her brother, but Luely can only apologize to Wolka because she sees herself as a criminal.
Wolka tells Luely that they already knew this was a trap from the start. Her lie had been exposed from the beginning. Someone who is bad at lying does not deserve to call themselves a criminal.
★ When they arrive at the ruins where the bandits are hiding, Lizel says there are seven people inside the ruins, but none of them are moving. To prepare for the worst, Luely is told to wait with Wolka near the entrance.
It turns out that out of the seven people inside the ruins, only three are still alive. The other four are bandits, and they are found dead.
The three survivors are Luely’s older sister and two women from another adventurer party. The real Cain and Roid, along with the men from the other party, have already been killed by the bandits.
The three surviving women are also unconscious, and it is clear that they went through all kinds of violence.
★ Wolka is told to wait near Luely’s older sister, while the others investigate the ruins to secure the equipment stolen from the adventurers by the bandits.
While Wolka is alone, Luely’s older sister suddenly wakes up and attacks him, thinking that Wolka is one of the bandits. She immediately uses wind magic and tries to kill him.
Lizel and the other party members hear the commotion and turn pale when they see Wolka being attacked, so they try to help him.
But Wolka stops them all and tells them not to interfere. Wolka sees Luely’s older sister’s situation as something similar to his own.
He sees how desperately she tried to save her younger sibling, fighting with everything she had and doing whatever she could for her sister’s safety. But she fell into despair after finding out that her sister was not inside the bandits’ hideout.
Wolka tries to calm Luely’s older sister down. He praises her hard work and tells her that her sister is safe.
Thanks to Wolka’s words, Luely’s older sister finally calms down, and after seeing that Luely is safe, she loses consciousness again.
★ Lizel, Atri, Yulitia, and Anze immediately rush over to Wolka and worry about his condition. Anze quickly uses healing magic to treat Wolka’s wounds.
His party members become almost hysterical when they see how injured Wolka is, because they are terrified of losing him.
△ The bandit attack arc ends here. After this, the story moves into the award ceremony and the rewards from the saints.
▽ I’ll keep this part short because it gets too long.
★ Wolka successfully returns to the Holy Capital. The saints, who heard about Wolka from Anze, one of the four saints, become interested in seeing him in person. They all meet the Silvery Gray party during the award ceremony.
After the ceremony, Lestadia asks for some time to talk with Wolka alone. There, she finds out that Wolka deeply hates God. He cannot forgive God for making the characters’ fates end in such tragic ways.
What Wolka means by “God” is actually the author of the original manga story. But Lestadia misunderstands him and thinks he means the god they believe in.
She assumes Wolka must have suffered through a terrible childhood, to the point where he lost hope in the fate of the world and came to hate God.
★ In Volume 3, they will finally meet Shanon, the guild receptionist who gave Silvery Gray the quest that almost got the entire party killed.
It was not really Shanon’s fault, but the guild’s fault for giving Silvery Gray the wrong information. Even so, Shanon still carries a huge amount of regret inside her.
