It is unrelated. We have received a dmca request for those chapters.

Note that this is the first time a takedown happened on this scale. Before it was just singular manga on the direct request of the author, or Naver because they're scary.

The chapter listings (a v3 feature where you can see the chapter but can't access the images) will return asap with the unavailable v3 feature. So for the users that use chapter read markers for tracking (please don't), don't worry your markers will return.
The users that want a list of what has been taken down will have to wait for said feature too.
Halo, im so sorry for asking this but im really have to make sure. Well i just read my most fav webtoon ever, its Weak Hero. Until this morning, i still can read it here by finding the titles in search and then click the button "read" and appears the comic and i can choose which chapter i want. But now, i cant clik the "read" button even the comic was still there. Is this also the effect from the banned???

Ah, yes, the 'I can't have what I want so burn it all down' gambit.
I don't want to burn it down, but I think it's silly to open this post talking about all the V3 features and how excited you are for the future of the site when the userbase will have to leave to continue reading the series they like. This isn't 1 or 2 series either, it's hundreds and hundreds of the most relevant, most recommended series that people love

No really, am I supposed to say "thank you for the hard work" when they let stuff like this happen?

Okay I don't entirely disagree with the "people don't want to pay" notion because due to the historically piss poor service piracy has essentially become the norm for most english manga readers, but it certainly doesn't help that these apps make actually paying for chapters such an absurd pain in the ass with its multiple currency systems and chapters being split up into several smaller chunks all to obfuscate how much you're actually spending on anything (which last time I checked with manga-up was as much as just straight up buying a full volume but that could've changed by now).
When I started buying chapters on comixology, I ended up paying more than the physical book. Learned my lesson to not buy with these websites very quickly.

You guys suck, just close up and shut down if you're going to let the majority of your active catalogue be taken from you like this.

This isn't really a piracy site, you can go to comick or mangasee or whatever if your main goal is piracy. It's a scanlation site.

No, you're free to leave. No one is forcing you to be here, other than you, apparently.
Is your position that removing huge portions of the mangadex catalogue is actually a good thing?

I'm really not trying to jump down your throat or put words in your mouth, but I don't see how you can look at this removal as anything other a major blow to the site that will not be offset by a slightly more elegant tag navigation.

I'm sure other people in this thread are using this as an excuse to just shit on dex, but I'm genuine in saying that I don't see why they should bother keeping this site up if things are imminently going to become untenable with takedowns.

Setting aside the site update, whose timing is entirely coincidental, I believe it is the lesser of two evils. I'm not happy about it, but I've been around long enough to see the wheel turn a few times before.

If MD refuses to comply with the DMCA, it will (eventually) go away entirely, at least in any meaningful form. This way, the forums and a number of the unaffected titles will remain.

Will there be more takedowns? Probably. I don't know what works will remain at the end of that cycle, but I have to believe there are small independent authors who appreciate having someone enjoy their work enough to bring it to a broader audience. Hopefully there's a way to bring those authors some tangible benefit.

In the meantime, we'll always have the shitposting thread.

If they didn't, mangadex would be taken down like mangahelpers and batoto in the past. The main reason mangadex has survived for so long is because they comply with takedowns. It doesn't really matter all that much for most of the people posting scanlations here, so I doubt they're going to quit anytime soon. The ones mostly affected were the ones trying to compete with official releases on licensed manga, and working on them is retarded to begin with.

Mangadex can probably still be taken down though, but my impression is that the publishers have more to gain by keeping mangadex up, than taking it down. If they do, shittier sites like batoto (new) will just take their place.

Which is the flaw on trying to play by the rules even though we're all thieves, people love to whine how Weebcentral, Batoto and such are eeeeevil shitty manga sites, but maybe they have the right idea since they do things different and completely ignore dmca

What's the point of breaking the law (steal mangas) if you're going to do it half-assed and can lose a lot of stuff like this?

You make it sound like they have a choice. You aware how litigious Japanese corps are? Or how unfair the legal system is to parties outside of Japan?

I'd rather have the possibility of losing some stuff I'm reading and it maybe returning later, than have it all vanish and having to go back to Nyaa or something.

Not to mention, you usually just get a license to read it, not to download it on most official quality sites. You just rent it, not own it.

Copyright in the original work extends to any translations as well, so they have the right to do that.
It just seems strange to me to DMCA chapters of manga that never had an official English translation to begin with, there's no merit in it. I was thinking it might be automatic AI mass DMCA actions that mixed things up in the process.

I have the impression that only chapters included in released volumes have been deleted. Chapters that are not part of a released volume yet are still there.
Is this correct?
