I guess his main motive this time was to build up Togami's record as a counterweight against Katsuya. As the rising star of Drankam, Katsuya kept attracting young hunters to join his side, which in turn empowered the administration faction. Shirakabe wanted a new poster child "young but capable guy" to reduce that momentum.

The Tankrantula hunt was about elevating Togami to contest the other factions for Drankam. At the end of the battle, he had an 'oh shit!' moment realizing he didn't have enough to pay Akira and Nergo. Thus he joined this mission to get more money in his own pocketbook to pay them, and because it's low risk, knowing the commander's philosophy.

From the Doylist (author's) perspective, adding in this snail battle is to show a contrast between what a good commander would do, and what Katsuya and his crew will get up to soon.

And yeah, the cliffhanger statement was just added by the mangaka.

I'm talking about the reason for joining another hunt as extra help and inviting Akira (really forcing his hand by suggesting they might get hurt and be unable to pay up on the tankrantula bounty) along for that. The way that was set up, there was no aura farming for Togami. That job as extra help wasn't dangerous at all, so Togami could handle it just fine without needing Akira to inflate "what the kid did" for Drancam.

That was probably an attempt to cut loss. By doing two consecutive jobs with different payment condition, he made it more confusing to determine how much was paid for each one. Also he might cough up his own reward from 2nd hunt and put into Akira's pool so the boy doesn't get offended.

Man the art this chapter was great. But idk the dialogue felt like everyone was repeating the same thing over and over whole chapter, I got the point of how they're different already.

it seem Shirakabe trying to make Akira ground records achievements as believable as possible since from his POV, he managed to lay low even when face to face with people until they saw it themselves how broken his abilities is.

Akira is stealth assassin that hide his abilities. it's so Perfect that people ended up underestimated him despite being strong AF (which is Perfect for him, it make him unpredictable to be dealth with).
but this Trashuya, mf max out his charisma to make him look strong but he's just standard power for dude.
im happy he's dead but i didn't like how the LN changed the plot where Author included the 2 girls death as well. in WN they're alive and even find new love interests. just Why?

I think you got Yumina and Airi confused with Reina there. Yumina hadn't been seen since that arc ended in the web novel, even though Drankam showed up again twice. So it makes no difference that she died.

Reina has maids and gets along with Togami, she was only briefly with Katsuya.

Airi never has a love interest other than Katsuya.

Kurosawa has a very pragmatic approach to bounty hunting. A "slow and steady" mindset. It works well, too.
