It's a romcom that's spinning its wheels to prolong shit, nothing new here, not sure why people are losing their shit this much. Hell, I can remember the days when having ANY plot progression happen was cause for celebration. Maybe we've gotten spoiled, or maybe this is a good enough manga that we expected better, but this isn't even that bad. Who knows, maybe the author even has some larger payout that the padding will have been necessary for. Probably won't, but worth at least giving the benefit of the doubt until it's resolved.
We also had two interruptions in the same chapter. Miyuki's mom came in right when they were about to talk, telling them to go to bed--and Miyuki, who had no problems telling her family off before, simply ran away from Sorata.
But then, when they decide to split up to cover more ground for another "let's tour Kyoto" chapter, Merry unilaterally decides Miyuki will go with her.
We could have had their big moment to at least begin the conversation that's needed to happen for more than a volume now against the backdrop of her home city, and it would have even been relevant as Ayano was telling Sorata to convince Miyuki to come back to this very place.
But instead, we get
nothing whatsoever. No actual velocity to the plot, no internal dialogue to show where the characters are sitting in their feelings on what's going on.
This might be "better" than historical precedent for romcom manga, but judging it that way is just giving the author a free pass to not be critical about the merits of their own work. Just because it's 'less bad' than something else, doesn't mean it's good or acceptable.
