... Is it me, or if Amon was the main character rather than the girl, this would be a harem story? Like, he's oddly powerful, has mysterious connections to the world (with an big powerful female elf mentor who adored him), is surrounded by women who look toward him for support and guidance, and a evil duplicate.

He's also actively doing most of the work with everyone else leeching off of him.

It looks like it connected directly into the spine (see page 5) so I suspect that only a specialist like Amon could remove it. Maybe another instance of his healing magics being perverted for ill purposes by the Duchy of Dal?

We can date it a bit better than that; the proverb she's quoting ("Sī fuerīs Rōmae, Rōmānō vīvitō mōre") dates from sometime around the 400s CE. Or possibly translation convention is in effect, and she's referring to a similar proverb (Like "Nomos ho pantōn basileus"/"custom is king") for which we wouldn't have any context.
