took me a full minute to realize the guy wasn't gonna play shit. i don't think i can rate this (if i did, you'd probably be disqualified too)
This piece more than any other gets used as a punchline about 'modern' music (by which the speaker usually means 'art music written in the middle two quarters of the 20th Century') being really bizzare. And it is, but I think that's primarily because many composers treated their works more as a philosophical exercise attempting to address the question 'what even is music' instead of entertainment. In that framework, John Cage was legitimately one of the most successful composers of the period - his works consistently push the boundaries of 'sound organized in time' in new and different ways. To my mind, 4'33" can be viewed as either taking the importance of the rests in music to the extreme, or recognizing that a live performance always exists in a space and that space becomes part of the performance (i.e., by only having the 'background sounds' of the performance to focus on, the audience becomes aware of their own part in the performance).

There is in fact more to the score of the work than just 'sit for 4 minutes and 33 seconds':

The problem with a lot of Cage's work is that, by pushing the boundaries so far, he ends up writing a lot of works that can only be written once. There are a lot of symphonies out there - there are a lot of different ways to write symphonies. There's really only one way to write something like 4'33", and once he did it, that's it - anyone who attempted to do the same thing again was going to be unable to differentiate their work from his. So while I believe Cage was quite successful, I believe he was also a 'dead end' in terms of developing new movements within the musical world.

Having said that, music is ultimately entertainment, and it's rather hard to go out of the performance venue humming or whistling 4'33" or any number of other modern works - they have a severe lack of catchy melodies.

maybe a, or the, 'dead end' at a time when there were still real barriers of entry to music creation. but with how easily accessible it is now, i see more and more ends that i wish were dead.

Never forget you can search for specific videos in the search bar if you put it in media mode:

this is ingrained in me, who do you think you're talking to? i just didn't bother to search for it this time, in part because i wasn't sure the exact video (/link) that you used for the song.

another tip for anyone who wants to easily find the songs listed on the scoreboard: if you search "Keywords: [username of user who posted the song], [rating i gave the song]" and "Posted By: bigtiddyoneesan", you can easily find the message where i quoted and rated the song

-> sees Radiohead that isn't 'Creep' (ew)
-> here are two better Britpop bands

Blur's 'Song 2' from their self-titled fifth album. Don't overthink it - it's not complicated.

Oasis's 'She's Electric' from (What's the Story) Morning Glory? - though it was originally supposed to be on their first album Definitely Maybe. It demonstrates the justification for the Beatles comparisons that were rampant, but it also got cribbed quite a bit itself by later bands. Not the most successful track from the album on the charts, but one of my favorites. (Also, video has a borgar.)

I know its the weakest version of calamari inkantation given it lets off the melody a fair amount compared to older versions... but i recently stumbled into it and really like it even compared to the other versions.

Another rabbit & steel song and the other stand out of the OST i've heard so far... still need to get good enough i can start doing the DLC mode. every time it starts playing i make so many mistakes....

-> sees Radiohead bombing it
-> tries again because, why not? ¯\(ツ)
you got lucky, i've actually liked this song for quite some time now (even though i don't listen to Radiohead). 8.0/10

6.3/10, would listen to again if i was held at gunpoint. also for the record, i am in favor of burning witches
