I was always a little confused about Griffith's motivations. Griffith, by Casulty's admission, is the most "perfected being" that took countless generations to create. When confronted with any wish, Griffith states that he wanted wings. I interpreted this as a combination of desires: "elevation as a superior being, the hawk that brings the prophecy, freedom to fly to the castle, etc." But it always struck me as odd that, despite being the equivalent of a semi-God to humans' standards, Griffith is still obsessed with the mundane and material vanity of being a king. He creates this elaborate plan, which, in retrospect, is actually very childish, to become the king of the people, whom he treats as a means to an end. But what end is Griffith running to? Even if he completes the subjugation of Falconia, what next? Does he want to become an immortal king by himself until eternity? Remarkably, even with his elevated status, he's still provoked by people taunting his position as if he's self-aware about how fake everything is.

Edit: taking a second read, I didn't catch that Griffith was shielding Casca away from the God Hands. Does this also imply that the God Hands were watching everything from Casca's perspective, from the Eclipse to now? Or is it that they can only "summon" through her, but can't actually see what she does until they come out?

There are a billion analyses you can make about the reason why Griffith is shielding Casca, but Casca being "protected' by her rapist makes me think we should all just be incinerated in a flaming fire. Yes, I am aware that Griffith is reincarnated into their child; therefore, he will still feel maternal(?) love towards Casca. Still, the flames will be hot

Well don’t forget their child is almost certainly what is compelling Griffith to “protect” Casca in the first place. Even back when Griffith had just been incarnated, and he had his reunion with Guts on the Hill of Swords the child inside compelled him to protect Caca from falling debris from Guts and Zodd’s fight.

Griffith’s heart no longer being frozen thanks to his union with Guts and Casca’s child is likely going to be key to his defeat.

Thing is... I remember that... but personally, I sustain my entire indignation. (not that I think you were trying to justify him)

That parasite didn't just violate Guts and Casca in ways that shouldn't be possible... he took their child too... I actually do not have enough words to describe the feeling I have for Griffith.

It is a mixture of hate, spite, and disgust that I can't put into words... point is... any and every reason that may appear to hate him, I will take it without hesitation.

Griffith being roasted by the God Hand was not on my bingo card. I'm all for it tho.

It does bring up a funny perspective. I wonder if from their point of view this is their youngest sibling larping as a hero. They chastise him but they don't necessarily do anything to impede him.

It also explains, why Casca and Guts were able to survive so long as branded. It was less about them being hidden but griffith protecting them, in a twisted way. They serve a role in his "play". The question on my mind, is all this so that Griffith can strike one final devestating blow to Guts and strike him down as a "hero" taking down a "beast"? Or, is there a possibility that he wants to be struck down?

He killed a physical manifestation of her that was only possible because he was in an area that was basically within the astral realm. They don't really have physical bodies, Griffith being the exception after taking over the body of Guts and Caska's unborn child.
