This is dumb, he is dumb.

Way to show you have zero faith in your connection that just exchanging contact info relegates you to the same status as everyone else. I guess literally everything that has happened up until this point means absolutely nothing and your bond is so fragile that exchanging contact information is enough to break it
Rightfully written. Someone has to give them a serious pep talk

It hurts when he says "won't you forget about me?" Because despite all we've seen Shun still feels that he can be forgotten by Chokki.

And what does he get in response? "You sure love the hyper go home rules little guy XD"! Not her reassuring Shun to some way, in some degree that he is unforgettable outside of their "club" and him being a "junior". There was no "I will never forget you as an individual person" but a sort of "you'll be part of a fond amalgam of feelings I had in school". The "bond" comment was predicated on the club, and followed by him being a junior. And maybe she was being deep or coy, but unfortunately we know Shun's thoughts: "precious junior huh?" That sounds pretty deflated to me.

Listen, I'd be mad at my bro if I said, "Hey man, I hope you don't forget about me" and I get a fist bump with a "You're a valued member of this organization and our shared commitment to the task enshrined by our core competencies".

I'm starting to feel bad for Shun. Chokki is more complicated than your average person. They have just rolled with things in their care free days, but have we seen them really overcome a struggle? What if there is some inevitable stress that a true relationship brings where you need someone to rely on or be accountable. A previous poster joked about her letting Shun know she's in labor by carrier pigeon, but imagine them handling any sort of mundane family crisis. It's comedy from the outside but tragedy on the inside if they have a future together.
The further I read into the series the less I'm sold on them ever becoming a serious couple.

Leave the romance before the romance leaves you. Grow up. What if on that trip Chokki got into an accident and you can't talk to her? That's incredibly stupid on Shun's part for rejecting her advances and another shot to the foot on Chokki's for not sticking to her guns and say that they can still exchange contact infos while not belittling their bond.

Imagine reading a romance all about whimsy and then having no sense of whimsy yourself about it.

That would be really dumb and romanceless.
They have their way, their romance, it ain't a sprint, but a nice long trek.

Seriously, what is up with this attitude of "Get together already" in regards to those goobers who have time and time again shown that they do things their way?

She just put such a sterile label on him calling him a junior and member. That's alienating. Boy, I can imagine this ending at graduation with a firm handshake, and a long time skip.

This is starting to feel more frustrating to play than Rin's route in Katawa Shoujo, but that had a better pacing and payoff so far.
Is like they made her autistic, it reminds me of Mysterious girlfriend X, which stalled and stalled and simply got interrupted.
If she is too dumb right now to understand romance, might as well have a time skip now, is endearing to a point, she had various characters challenge her, talk to her about romance, she has the internet, she should be old enough to get it.

I get the idea of keeping it special like that, WhatsApp/Telegram are convenient but I used to get long phone calls before that from a friend of mine, but the way she labelled him, that almost feels like a friend zoning.

The ending of the chapter is the thing that I found the most weird in retrospect, since it paints an image of returning to a status quo we've been long apart.

Or maybe not, might be worth a re-read anytime soon

We use our phones everyday for every thing. If they could talk whenever they wanted it wouldn't be special. Having to take time to communicate, making it a priority instead of doing it while browsing the web or reading between text makes you more present in the interaction, makes it more important and meaningful.

If he had texted those pictures they wouldn't have been able to talk to each other like this.
The thing is, you can make a point to do all those things without being forced.

And you know what? It's not optional. One day, they're going to grow up. They're going to have adult responsibilities. They're going to enter the Japanese workforce. And then if they want a relationship they're going to have to do the things that work for adult relationships.

That means making yourself do romantic gestures. It means scheduling date nights. It means purposefully sending postcards or little gifts when a SMS would do.

They may as well get some practice in while it's still a matter of choice.

Chokki's sense of romance has made them some good memories. They can be a shared reminiscence for them in the future, which is useful for a relationship's strength. But clinging onto this as high school draws to a close is beginning to reek of Peter Pan syndrome. It's time to grow up. And if she wants a relationship with our boy, it's time for Chokki to nut up or shut up.

I just don’t get it. You can have her number for when you can’t reach her, and still do their ‘romantic’ things like postcards and letters. This isn’t an either or type of situation, you can walk AND chew bubblegum!
Not everyone can walk and chew gum. Heck, I personally know people who can't breathe and walk simultaneously

It sound nice but totally silly I think, you can exchange contact and keep doing romance thingy. I mean, surely doing romance thingy is harder later when she graduate.

To quote Sir Terry,

“I thought you said people see what they expect to see.”
CHILDREN DON’T. TOO OFTEN THEY SEE WHAT’S THERE.

Chokki-chan sees what's important is human relationships and connections. She has decided maintaining that specialness is more important than convenience.

Who are you to take that away from her? Why do you want to force her to live in the same drab world you live in?

As I said in another post, I'm sure if she moves away for college they will exchange contact information. Or maybe they won't. There is a certain romance in waiting for a letter from your beloved, saving and re-reading it while you wait for the reply to yours.

Now that I think about it, Chokki-chan would love the Discworld.

Much as I enjoyed the Discworld books, sometimes they go for a pithy quote over an actual truth. This is one of those times.

For a short while until she died horribly from doing something terminally unwise, sure. There are a lot of starry-eyed fools in those books that are only mentioned as punchlines.

You're missing the point, and since you're already being rude as hell making this a personal attack for no reason, I'm just going to say outright that you're probably missing the point on purpose.

It's got nothing to do with me. I'm not involved. I'm not the one who's going to force her. Decent chance it's not even a specific person who forces her.

But lasting relationships take work, and a degree of sacrifice. You can't run one on romance alone, any more than you can have a healthy diet of pure fondant.

If this works out for her, it'll only be because this is a rom-com, and as fictional as the Discworld.
