I don't think Hebikawa needs to suffer or something like that, but I don't think she would be any good to the MC, at the best they can be friends.

Ok but I think we're forgetting something, she's like A CHILD. Yeah a teenager and in highschool, but this was still her dealing with A GROWN ASS MAN and I think its not right to blame her for the situation she got her self in beacuse she clearly did not understand what kinda situation she was in or person she was dealing with. She may play the minipulator, but as seen from this she is not as smart or mature as she presents herself, and clearly is dealing with parts of life that she wrongly believes she has control over.

Ofc I understand ur other points about her as a character, not exactly growing in the moment, but I had to point this out cus it rubbed me the wrong way.

Sure this isn't real growth, but this moment can be the base to start one.
Already admitting that she feel the safest with the guy she just planned to use to hurt the FMC is a contradiction she would have to answer to eventually.
So I wouldn't go as far as saying that nothing as actually changed

That's fair. I can agree it's the first crack, something that could lead to growth later. I'm just pushing back against people acting like she's already grown. The contradiction is there, but she hasn't actually dealt with it yet. That's the difference.

I don't want to sound like I'm victim-blaming because the guy is a complete piece of shit, and he's entirely responsible for whatever he does. That said, Hebikawa knowingly kept playing with someone she already knew was a predator. Keisuke had already stopped him from getting her alone once, and she herself admitted she knew exactly what kind of person he was. She doesn't deserve what's happening, but she took an incredibly reckless risk by continuing to toy with him. She knowingly put herself in a dangerous situation, and now she's facing the consequences of that decision. That still doesn't make what he does her fault.

So, even though it's not her fault, there still has to be some level of accountability on her part.

Also it would be weird if she got together with MC. He’s named Keisuke Shizuki and she’s named Shizuka Kusunoki. If they got married and she took his name she’d be Shizuka Shizuki lol.

This chapter looks like character growth on the surface, but when you take a closer look, nothing has really changed.

Yes, Hebikawa called Keisuke for support. Yes, she's starting to realize she's developing feelings for him. Yes, Keisuke offered to be there for her. On the surface, all of that feels like progress.

But here's what's still missing: she hasn't abandoned her original plan. She hasn't thought, "I was wrong to think about using him." She hasn't realized that everything she's been doing so far has been wrong. At her core, nothing about her character has actually changed.

Calling someone when you're scared is a moment of vulnerability. It isn't the same thing as growth. You can develop feelings for someone and still use them. You can trust someone in one moment and still manipulate them in the next.

Right now, Hebikawa is simply someone who had a frightening experience and turned to the person she felt safest with. That's not character growth. That's a natural emotional reaction.

Real growth would mean recognizing that what she was doing was wrong, taking responsibility for it, and changing her behavior. None of that has happened yet. Her feelings may be new, but her plan is still there. Her worldview is still there. The fundamental conflict driving her character is still there.

I think a lot of readers will treat this as though she's already changed, when in reality she hasn't even begun to. This chapter sets up the possibility of growth, but it isn't the growth itself.

The reason is simple: that's not what Hebikawa's character arc is about. If this were Kusunoki, whose arc revolves around self-understanding, an emotional realization like this could count as growth. But Hebikawa's arc is about accountability. It's about whether she'll recognize the harm she's causing, both to others and to herself, take responsibility for it, and choose to change. Until that happens, she hasn't grown. She's just had a moment.

Kusunoki is just objectively boring, she's not bad or anything as a love interest but the author played it way too safe with her so she'd be "likeable" to everyone while Hebikawa doesn't have to be likeable and it made her way more dynamic and interesting.

Honestly I'm glad the protagonist wasn't passing nearby and happened to save her. That was a nice change of pace for this type of situation.
