I already hate it when translators put unnecessary commentary on the page.
I mean, I appreciate your work, I can stomach it if it's like 1 or 2 in a chapter,
but when they're on every page, god forbid, every panel?
I'll just read the raws.

And now, there are translations that put new, nonexistent subtext into the panels.
There are no such quippy one-liners in the raws.

Is that even allowed?

I have no problem with swear words, I fucking swear all the fucking time.
But I do prefer little to a complete absence of present-day profanity in fantasy stories,
especially those modern lingo ones.
They certainly shatter my immersion.

After imagining that dark twist on the wholesome yuri manga last week,
seeing the Blue Origin news, I can't help but have this dark thought about the 'aspiring astronaut girl' manga.

Imagine if the story ends with a literal bang.

I just finished reading volume 1 of Mangaka, Ryoushi ni Naru (the entry isn't on MD yet).
The manga is quite unique, as it's essentially a semi-autobiographical/diary of the mangaka's experiences pursuing his new hobby as a hunter.

I found it quite interesting at first, until I checked out the mangaka's blog,
where he posted some of the photos he used as reference, including his game.

And uh... it made me feel... how should I put it... visceral?
Made me a little bit uncomfortable.
Kinda wish I hadn't seen it.

It's rare for me to read a story that makes me want to see a good character die.

And it's not because the character is poorly written. Rather, it's because the setup, struggle, and character development are so incredibly well-crafted that they make me want to see how tragic it would be if that happened.

A good story needs a good death, you know.
