Really lovely chapter~! I love how this series has all sorts of turbulence, challenges, and things falling short of expectations, but then every once in a while you get a moment of unmitigated success and celebration :)

Great backstory, I like that they introduced some lore without it detracting from the emotional impact of the story, and kept everything pretty simple.

Great chapter, and I agree that you did a great job typesetting their inner thoughts. I love Kiriyama being depicted like a dog when he plays shogi, it's such a nice contrast to the sad, repressed person we saw at the beginning of the series. I think we're being set up for Shimada to lose, but...
