A new way to support MD: paid promotions for any manga on the site. Might also help to find overlooked stuff.

The promotion list could be displayed at the bottom of the page, perhaps.

4chan does something similar, where users can promote boards and target their "ads". Although rather than ads, this sounds more like pinned recommendations. If it's not too obnoxious, why not?

I don't know if you ever scanlated, but it kinda sucks when a person works on a project for a long time and when you release and it gets sub 500 views while some flavor of the month forgettable material gets thousands. And there is no way to affect that.
Would seeing a thumbnail of some unknown manga be so bothering to you?
It's not like that's already not the case with Featured and New lists on the bottom of the page.
Except that most people already know of the manga in former while the latter isn't very useful because it includes stuff languages others might not understand.

Compare that to the situation when there were a third list that introduces manga that doesn't belong to the featured list(if it were, why pay for an ad?), but has a dedicated following that wants others to know about it.
You get to read manga for free, the manga fans/groups get the exposure and MD gets the money. It's a win for everyone.

@AbyssalMonkey
Makes sense. But those groups are already big enough to have plenty of exposure through featured list or word of mouth. And naturally, there would be abuse prevention methods for various situations. Such as: continuous requests(to prevent one manga to be in the list for too long), fake/low effort/offensive content, etc.

@Halo Exactly.

Forgot to add, this could make for an interesting supporter's perk, like "have your recommendation pinned for n-hours once a month".
It's not essential, doesn't undermine normal users and naturally finite.

Idk mate, I translate fucking inubaka, a manga that barely anyone knows about/remembers. I do it because I enjoy the manga myself and wanted to see the ending, not for the views. I don't really get why people translate shit they aren't interested in just for recognition or whatever.
I mean, I have no issue with your idea either, mostly because I know I'd just ignore it anyway.

Have I scanlated anything? No. Although I do have experience volunteering from animal shelters to soup kitchens. As you can imagine apart from the other people there this was thankless endeavor however I never did it because I wanted someone to notice me or to look good I did it because I wanted to and because I had the time. Would it bother me if this got implemented? Honestly yes because I know this will lead to bigger problems down the road so I will voice my opposition until we get an answer.

@ikemen Do you mean something like the "featured titles" and "new titles" list on the main page? (something like "promoted titles" or something?)

Isn't it already good to get 500 views? I mean, before the Internet existed, getting that many people to read your releases would have required much, much more efforts. Moreover, 500 counted views may hide a higher actual number of view (unregistered users, people reading on other websites).
Yeah, some mainstream series get undeserved hundreds of thousands of views, because some people have no taste. That's life. But it's okay, because if enough of them donate to keep the website running, then you have a place to keep releasing for people who like your work, however few there may be.
Looking for good unknown manga is a hard path, but it's a rewarding one. If your work is good, connoisseurs will find it.
