Twitter-cop syndrome. They don't like something for whatever reason, so they bitch and moan about it to get rid of it instead of just ignoring it.
No, sniping and people taking series even though other people are working on them has always been something that would make people mad at you, long before an awful microblogging site became popular.
On a broad community management view, its wasted effort to be translating something people already are. It also tends to make the people already working on it feel devalued or underappreciated, which will kill momentum in a passion-driven project like this. So it's also, from a community self-policing and sustainability level, behavior you don't want to encourage. A low-quality effort, like this one, is also a really bad thing to encourage on a popular and already established series. Cause it's faster to do something like this, and you're now setting up a race to the bottom if it's successful and praised.
The day something like this isn't met with annoyance is the day the community will become unable to sustain itself.
