Aelina certainly is clever and lucky. Since she was going to take a leave so wouldn't be a knight I wonder what her plan to be with MC was. Lucky for her she heard about the handmaiden position, although why would a handmaiden be laid off once a head maid was found not to mention why isn't there a head maid already? After all, wouldn't a head maid's job be like the head butler except in charge of the maids, making sure the work gets done, etc. so where would be the time to wait on the MC? Then again the head butler waits on the head of the household so maybe a lot of delegation, information networking, and other jobs are used to take care of things.
Btw, this is just a guess but I'd say MC doesn't like knights due to the ones at her parents' home fawning over and being as much musclebrained idiots as her sister. Especially the number of times they took her sister's side without knowing anything, took her chastisement as bullying, and got in her way while riding an emotional high while deliberately ignoring common courtesy and code of conduit for their positions.
