Oh, sorry, i didn't mean that the sentence on page 18 was your mistranslation. Just an unusual choice on mangaka's part (Zabeth seems to be a diminutive of Lisabé, which is Norman equivalent to Elizabeth).

As for Leonid, eh,.. i don't know, he delivered that line the way i expected him to, so it didn't strike me as shocking, at least not to extent other characters showed.
