Kanon has been so swept up in the discovery of the depths of her feelings for Saki that she hasn’t had the time to consider all the implications. Even beginning with what it means for her own sexuality, much less how her family, friends and society in general would react to her being in love with another girl.

Yeah, I don't think that Kanon would not give a damn at all. She has already been bullied for being deaf, I think she would not care in the slightest if society was to criticize her over being in love with a girl. As far as the people that are close to them, we already know that majority of them would support them and some are even supporting them now. Only question here is Kanon's mother because she is being overprotective, but since it is Saki we are talking about here I think she might accept it as well in the end.

I am more worried for Saki, since she does not take such criticisms that well (remember when she first meet Rinne, she could not breathe normally and had just collapsed on the spot). But I do pity the soul that tries to bully her after she and Kanon go official, as it will be meet with such fury from all the people who adore her that it will not be even funny.

Let me clarify my point, it’s not about what kind of bigotry or discrimination that Kanon will inevitably face sooner or later, the point is that her whole world view is going to shift in ways she hasn’t had time to realise yet. Like for instance, until you actually become aware of it, you don’t notice how little there is in media about same-sex attraction, and how much of what there is is heavily criticised and censored for being “inappropriate” for general audiences, whereas heterosexual romance and sexualisation is shoved in our faces constantly everywhere we look. There’s a small moment earlier in the series where Saki mentions she doesn’t like to watch movies from the romance genre, and it’s not hard to guess why. Since Saki doesn’t seem to have directly experienced or witnessed any discrimination or persecution herself, those persistent and overt examples of heteronormativity, that we all have shoved down our throats from birth, is the most probable source of her internalised homophobia.

There are also additional considerations that Kanon will need to become aware of when it comes to her relationship with Saki that wouldn’t normally apply to most heterosexual relationships. For instance, will they be open about their relationship, and if not, who will they share it with? Kanon has never had to think about coming out to anyone yet beyond wanting to confess to Saki. At least with their families and inner circle of friends there shouldn’t be any major problems this close to the series’ ending. Though you never really know how someone will react until you tell them, that’s what can make coming out so nerve-wracking no matter how many times you do it or for how long. Some people have hidden depths you just don’t know about until opportunity brings it to the surface, and on the flip side, some people might reevaluate their view of a demographic when someone they know personally reveals they are part of said demographic. Sooner or later, Kanon and Saki will encounter someone who takes issue with their sexuality or relationship, it might even be someone they considered a potential friend, and if so, even Kanon, who has just started opening up to people again, won’t be able to avoid being at least a little disappointed.

Of course, even before all that, Kanon will have to understand and respect Saki’s own reservations about revealing her own sexuality. That will likely be where their conservation goes after they decide what they will be to each other. Then they can work out the logistics of how their relationship will work going forward, though some of it they’ll have to figure out as they go.

There‘s also their future plans to consider. Not sure if Kanon’s mom would be more or less open to the idea of them living together while going to uni if they reveal they are dating, but it certainly eliminates one of the arguments she gave to Saki. Of course, I’d still want them to consider what is best for their individual education and future careers, even if that means going long distance for a few years. Considering those questions are what prompted Saki to confess, we’ll likely get a follow-up on what they decide before the series concludes. Maybe we’ll even get a flash forward to their uni or adult life.

To be fair, Kanon's entire world already shifted once when she became deaf. It was not a smothe ride at all so now it should not be such a problem, especially since it is for the person she love.

And while societal issues still remain (like the heterosexual relations being the norm, but then again majority of population is like that everywhere so it's a given) they are not something that they cannot go trough together. As I said, I am more concerned for Saki here as she is more delicate than Kanon. But giving the suppprt she will have around her, plus society as a whole is not as discriminating as they were 100 years ago (and quife supportive depending on a country) - they should be fine.

And if Kanon's mom would not accept this (personally I doubt it but then again it is a possibility) then Kanon can just move out and cut all communication. She is almost an adult and can decide for herself. We already know that Ayano and Rinne will be for it and Saki's mom will 100% support her (I think she already knows to be honest). I personally think it will not come to that, as she might be overprotective but in the end she will do what will make her daughter the happiest. And if that means having Saki as a partner than she will just have to live with it.

All in all, I would love for manga to go for a lottle while. To see how will their relationship evolve, how will other matters be resolved and what will their adult life be like. I would also like to imagine some major crisis happening with Saki only for her dad to decide to actually support her officially.

This is so freaking cute i wanna cry im just so sad that i had to wait a month for the next chapter. tbh i still have some bad feelings about saki, especially regarding her internalized homophobia, plus how Kanon's mom told saki to forget kanon for the music university.
Kanon is too innocent ngl, she's deaf, and have some problems in her past, so she might think that liking a girl isn't that much of a deal while it could literally be. i know its probably her first time ever falling in love so i could only hope best for her and saki :(
im just really curious about kanon's mom ngl, i dont know if she might be homophobic or just dont want saki taking care of kanon too much, i really feel ike there's kind of a misunderstanding between saki and kanon's mom there

Jeez, I wasn’t implying Kanon’s mother would be homophobic, just meant to point out that most of the arguments she gave to Saki were still valid. Different schedules, different social lives, the usual nonsense when it comes to living with a roommate/s, especially for the first time. Plus, being a couple brings its own challenges and pitfalls. Moving in together is a major step for any couple after all, and her mother’s major concern was insuring that they maintain a good relationship, which might mean she’ll advise them not to rush into it fresh out of high school and wait at least an extra year or two.

As for the reaction, I think both moms would be among the most thrilled by the news.
