The lack of autonomy is a serious thing. Lacking consent, being made a puppet, it is a terrifying concept. They are being raped, mentally though not physically, and being made to betray themselves.

Personally, I just find them lame and lazy, before anything else. It takes away all the responsibility from the party. It's like deus ex machina for betrayal plots - why did they do it? Doesn't matter, mind control!

Yeah. It's one of those "advanced" tropes that can be easy to mess up if done wrong. Would rather use the good ol manipulation and/or blackmail rather than mindcontrol since whoever is the victim probably has a personal stake and are totally aware what they're doing is wrong.

On the other hand, being commanded to do the opposite of everything that you stand for is truly a horrible thing.

The spoilers here confirm what everybody could already guess, it's mind control and Draco, while fully aware, has no autonomy. Not the worst case in that she is not doing this out of her own will but she's still getting raped, quite literally. The rest is unbearably infuriating but this in particular is absolutely unacceptable, where I draw the line, and a severe mood whiplash too. I can only remain hopeful they make it clear later that it's not as bad as it's made to look, I was really liking this new series and looking forward to its future.
