I think some people were burnt out on this series, but this was a great chapter.
No, disagree. The ENDING of this chapter was pretty good. The beginning was such utter and complete crap. I'm exaggerating, but the beginning was bad.
We have this exposition DUMP from a flashback because the author doesn't know how to build up characters. I echo a comment from an earlier chapter from someone else. The author doesn't know how to do any buildup. It's just straight drama without any depth of character.
Which is all the weirder because we see the author COULD write better. Again, the ending was pretty good. It had depth of feeling. It felt like it mattered. But so much of this series completely lacked that.
Also, as an aside, I feel like the ending of this chapter being at all decent is just because the author continuously did exposition dumps and monologues until it finally made sense. Here, yes, it made sense for the two of them to talk and have a monologue for a little. In the earlier chapters, the author was doing the same thing, but it just didn't work because it wasn't appropriate for the setting.
