Author trying too hard to demonize the only character that had a shred of rationality. It's a lot easier to lie than having to kill the cop, this homicide was artificially introduced by the author just for the purpose of demonizing him.

Not really, I find it kinda extreme but one careless action can lead to disaster, he doesn't have the moral dude plot armor which will always keep him safe to talk it out. How many times the idiot MC miraculously survived already ? If you think of this from a standard human POV, If the police dude shot, the chickens gather the chance of survive is not very high, and the police dude didn't seem like he will listen and will only end up as dead weigh anyway. Over all I think he made the right choice to survive

The cop wouldn't be trying to shoot if he lied he would help him. Not to mention that trying to asphyxiate him would have made him shoot in the first place. All in all author just trying too hard to make the character a cold blooded killer.

True, I also find the way he killed the police is a little dumb but the decision to kill the police is not really wrong. He will mostlikely be dead weigh and he also didn't seem to try reason, instead talking it out or persuade Tora he instaneously trying to shoot at the chickens when it doesn't even seem like they are being chased without giving a fuck about Tora or the kid. In this setting, instead of trying to save a dead weigh selfish guy like that it is better to kill him and take his weapon for you yourself

Also, who would have guessed the cop will try to shoot immediately after he said that he will try to save the kid first

Tora didn't really have to kill the guy, knocking him out would have been enough to get the gun, cop guy would be chicken feed soon anyway with that leg.

First, you kill a giant chicken trying to slaughter you and all your family. Then you try to kill a crazy punk trying to maim and slaughter your family.
