I'm with her. Why should do anymore than she needs to. This isn't Disney or Marvel where not being a good person equals auto suffering.

@Zones: they're both somewhat similar. Dungeons start appearing on Earth that will flood the world with monsters unless "adventurers" conquer them gaining fame, fortune and sponsors along the way.

@9manny99 The real thing is the shop owner isn't right either. She doesn't have to do more than she chooses too, but also with that kind of power, she shouldn't get away 'scott free' when she chooses not to do anything. She can choose to not help, but the town and military could choose to kick her out and black list her for not helping during a disaster when she had the power. Especially if people got hurt or died. Expecting the town to accept her after that is wrong, and it would be awful writing if the town did, because people saw that she was more than powerful enough to help. She's actually the strongest person there.

Well, not necessarily. You're judging her actions by our values, and the society we live in is totally different from theirs. We still haven't given enough information to know just what kind of status these adventurers have there—just what kind of benefits they enjoy. Moreover, she's a civilian, not a person from the military, and there's been no indication that adventurers are required to fight. Moreover, we don't even know whether she's considered an adventurer, so even if adventurers are obliged by law to help, maybe she's considered just a store clerk (even if she used to be an adventuer in the past). Finally, what you mentioned about kicking her out, that also wouldn't happen, for two reasons. First, just having her there is an assurance. A town wouldn't throw someone powerful away just because he or she refuses to promptly defend it from any threats, especially considering that she has proven that, depending on the situation, she will help. Therefore, it's better to have someone that will help, even if only occasionally, than someone who won't help at all. Now, the second reason: the company she works for. From the hints we've been given so far, the company she works for monopolizes the adventurer-related market. It wouldn't be strange for such a company to have power that rivals a country. People would probably think twice before offending her. Also, you talk as if she wants to live there. She most certainly doesn't. She was tranferred there, and ever since that happened, she's been complaining non-stop. I don't think she'd mind being kicked out.

So I would say that yes, she's right. She's no obligation to help (from what we've been shown so far) and people shouldn't expect her to do so (again, from what we've been shown so far). It'd be nice if she did, definitely, but not everyone is a good samaritan. Of course, this is all just my opinion (and analysis), and you're free to either agree or disagree with it.

@WillLi she isn't wrong, yet isn't right either, yes... but in the end she helping when the monsters go through barricade...
when the soldiers and village people still can handle it, she already on guard behind them...
that shopkeeper girl indirectly that mage girl never stay on weak-side, asking help without trying to become strong enough to do that herself and blame others when she fail to save people, if she always do that, then she always become weak girl that can only do 'asking for help'.
whats the point of try helping people if in the end all you can do is asking other people to help you helping people... (helpception!)

to me it seems she act 'tsundere' by saying 'protecting her store', when actually trying to giving those soldiers and villagers some experience of how to handle Stampede, since stampede not happen only once, but periodically...
and those monsters is actually pretty weak since villagers and common soldiers can handle them, compared to Shinjuku, the dungeon has Dragons on it.....

Why can't she use her skills outside the dungeon? That is kinda dumb considering the monsters can leave them

@Liquidxlax If I remember correctly, she can use magic, but must not use it outside the dungeon because other people would see it. They mentioned the reason in one of the earlier chapters.

@dummyaccount12345 Actually their society is mostly like ours, there are some differences, but the expectation of people helping is obviously there, as the one who commented that she didn't need to was a soldier rather than a commoner. Also if you look closely in this chapter, there are civilians from the town helping out as well. (You can tell cause they're not in military clothes, and they're using tools as weapons.) So saying "She's a civilian" just means she's not forced to help, but it doesn't mean that people don't expect her to help. With people in the town helping to get rid of the monsters, if she's just standing around when she could easily make things easier and less risky, people are gonna get mad at that. Also she doesn't work as assurance, because she helped some, but people still got seriously hurt while she was lazing around. Just no one died (that we saw) Their town is also going to get bigger soon because of the dungeon there (It's been hardly any time since it was discovered so they haven't gotten the tourist spike yet) but as we saw most adventurers will protect people, so they really don't need the shop girl, they just need to draw in adventurers who will act as assurance. And as for her shop, they could just send complaints in to her company, and they're replace her with someone else to run the shop. So she's not someone irreplaceable.

And again, she's free to do what she wants, but the wrong thing is the -expectation- that she can do something like this and not get the town's anger for it. And she would mind getting kicked out, because in her company this is a punishment transfer, so if she screws that upto too, they'll probably just fire her. Based on how she was behaving it's pretty obvious she's in a bad spot with the company now. Also several people were seriously hurt. And this isn't some kinda ploy to try and make the girl stronger. One, we don't even know if you can level up outside a dungeon, but also, asking for help is the -smart- thing to do. That girl is by no means anywhere near the kind of person who would rely on others without doing anything herself. She's right there fighting as hard as she can. So acting like she is teaching the girl some lesson about not relying on people is just stupid. The girl has never overly relied on anyone in the first place.

@Nematoda She is not 'helping when the monsters get through the barricade' she helped once when the monsters were going to kill some civies without any interference. But many people got injured and monsters dis breech the barricade and she did nothing. She herself also said she's only protecting her shop. So she's not nearly killing everything that passes the barricade. The MC had her in the dungeon killing enemies by herself to grind levels literally a few days earlier. He was just watching to make sure she didn't die. Or did you forget everything she did in the dungeon?

And again, people got seriously injured, her doing a 'tsundere' act to teach them is even worse than her just not wanting to help. Because people could die, she can be there watching but if she messes up her timing, or someone she didn't help because she "thoguht they had it" messes up, someone could end up dead. Because she wanted to "Show them how to be strong" that is the dumbest thing ever. And the village is already fighting their hardest, and so are the soldiers, there's nothing to teach them. They'll only get stronger through experiencing it, but that doesn't matter if they're dead or crippled after it. The shopkeeper fighting wont hamper their growth. It'll save lives and prevent injuries.

@Epicredeemer @Liquidxlax it was something like no mana outside the dungeon for her to convert into her magic attacks.
