Too bad the webnovel version isn't translated anymore...
Usually the novel version goes deeper in characterization, you get more infos about anything and there is usually a lot of other stuff (like short but still important character developpement parts) that get cut out in the manga adaptation.

The outburst of the shopkeeper may probably be better done in the novel version...

@WillLi
[Are you daft? Once again, pretty much your entire post is actually just wrong. It's not even opinion, it's just wrong. Maybe English isn't your first language, but you're using so many words wrong.]
from saying people crazy to become grammar nazi, NICE
english not my first language, but your english is no better either... LOL
damn i thought you are good person, to think you are same as other douchebag who using insult to show superiority.... pathetic...

[Asking someone to help when there is literally too much for you to handle is not overly relying on people. People were getting injured so it was obviously beyond their abilities to handle safely. Asking for help is not over relying on people. Over relying on people means expecting people to do everything for you while not doing anything yourself.]
and blaming the rescuer because fail to protect someone and to hidden their weakness, yeah ~

[And stop saying the shopkeeper was helping, because she wasn't. She killed 3 monsters and that's it, and she didn't do anything before that. And the MC's dungeon -was- strong compared to normal people. There are -no- adventures in the town 'cept MC and the Mage, so even basic monsters are a threat.]
LOL again, she clearly help those villager so they didn't die, give command to soldiers and villagers to fix their barricade, and even soothing the eldery villagers, are you blind or daft?
adventures is option, people can become adventures if they want, MC too just normal people before become adventurer, yeah basic monsters are threat, yet there are no casualties, villagers and soldiers survived, their home still intact, they gain experience of handling monsters and how to protect themselves, and they are NORMAL PEOPLE....
again, are you blind or daft?

[If the people die, not only do they learn nothing, but that means she just lets people die because she doesn't feel like doing anything. That's by no means good.]
LOL again, but they didn't die tho? real battle experience, experiencing near-death situation, know how to act under pressure of getting attacked by enemies, is like i said again and again, valuable.... on RL there's military squad that training under that pressure, they got rained by real bullet when doing 'war' simulation...

[If all they're getting is "hands on experience" fighting the stampede then there is literally no reason for the shopkeepr not to help. They can get the experience while she fights along side them. She doesn't have to worry about slowing down their levels by stealing kills.]
LOL again, clearly you didn't even read my comments, the stampede monsters there is WEAK, if she go in front from the start, whats the point? those villagers and soldiers would never feel 'pressure' from stampede thinking "oh there's strong person in here, we can get ease", after getting barricade broken and monsters try to go through, now they know the real danger, after that shopkeeper can go to help them... when military squad do battlefield training, did they accompanied by their veteran commander or the elites? no. they just watching them from afar....

[You trying to justify the shopkeeper only makes her an even worse person. Because there is no justification for it. She's simply a selfish asshole. It's her right to choose to be like that if she wants and no one can stop her. But that doesn't make it not being a selfish asshole. She did what would be the equivalent of not helping people out during a natural disaster when she has all the skills and equipment necessary to do it rather safely, just because it's "Not her town." Cause that's the thing, based on what we saw, this stampede is no threat to her. She wouldn't really be putting herself in any real danger.]
if she really selfish asshole who try to protect only the store, she can just doing that in front of her store, since she's strong that can kill with barehands, weak stampede like that pose no problem for her.
stop judging from the cover alone.... lol

@Nematoda Your english is bad because you're using words wrong. So if you're going to say mine is bad, actually point out a word I'm using wrong firstly. Secondly, your entire defense relies on the fact that you think that everyone would suddenly ease up at the thought of having a strong person there. But nothing indicates that is the case unless she literally does everything for them. Which not a single person asked or expected her to do everything. They just want her to be actively helping and not just sitting around.

Now as for her other help, 'giving orders' that's just dumb. Not only was that a common sense thing, but literally there was no time for them to even start fixing the barricade before she said it. Cause she said it immediately after she killed those monsters. So acting like that order helped is just stupid, because she gave it before anyone even had the chance to make that decision themselves. But I thought she was "Giving them their own experience" that seems contradictory there.

Also in case you haven't noticed, after talking with the mage, she -left- you can see her walking away in the panel. So yeah she didn't stay in front of the barricade. And you're exactly right this stampede poses no threat to her, so why doesn't she just help out?

What you don't seem to get is, no one we saw died, maybe no one did die at all, but that is only because of -luck-. Look at the guy with the crate, if he messed up that block, or the mage messed up saving him, he could've died. And then look at the two people the mage kneels down to to start healing. They are injured enough to not be fighting, if their wounds were in a different place, they could be dead. And all three of those people are civilians(no military uniform). The problem isn't whether or not people died, it's that the shopkeeper standing around is letting that risk exist because she doesn't feel like fully contributing.

If it turns out in the next few chapters they say she decided to stick around and help fully then cool. But even if she was "Only jumping in when things looked dangerous" then that's and asshole move, because the -risk- of someone dying increases drastically.

Also for me being such a 'grammar nazi' (which you also used wrong) you've stopped using the words that you were outright using wrong. I wonder why that is..oh maybe because it was just simply a false statement and no one was being overly critical of grammar?

Either way, You obviously don't know this thing called risk assessment, and you simply want to make up excuses for the shopkeeper. So this is over unless you stop living in a dream land where endangering people's lives is okay just because you didn't -see- anyone die. Because that's what she's doing, she is refusing to -decrease the likelihood- of severe injury by participating. Either out of her own selfishness or as you say to 'teach' them. No matter what, both of those are an asshole move. If a drill sergeant fired real guns at his soldiers to teach them how to act in a fire fight, we'd call him crazy. So why is it okay that the shopkeeper does that? The answer is it's not 'okay'. Which is why you're the only one trying to say that's what she's doing. Everyone else is just saying she's being selfish, which is her choice. There is no 'moral justification' for her behavior. She's not evil or anything but you can't say what she was doing is 'right' or 'good' plain and simple.

It's literally just centipede and some wild rabbits in mc's dungeon, and for the rest of dungeon why don't they use like tank or AA gun and shred them to pieces? I'm sure as monster-y as they are, their hide can be blown with depleted uranium rounds?

I mean ffs a whole city got burned down and they don't think of using a military equipment?

i mean yeah the military can be underequipped, IRL situations would mean a lack of more specialized equipment, but a lack of guns, the bread and butter of a military force? if afghans and ISIS and make fully equipped geurrilla armies with heavy machine guns on technicals id think japan could afford to send out the JSDF with rifles at the least

@dudsuper8 It's not that they -can't- send guns. What I'm saying is it's probably that they -didn't- send guns, remember the stampedes were kinda a surprise with little preptime. Japan has very strict gun laws, even for the JSDF and police. (I don't remember if it's still the case but there was a time police could only carry like 6 shot revolvers that were literally strapped to them so they couldn't be stolen) So if the JSDF in the town didn't have any guns, or people who were well trained with guns in the first place, they wouldn't be a priority for reinforcements to get some while the stampedes are going on.

In the previous chapter is clearly stated that:
A) adventurers are subordinated to the self defense force and pressed into service (and even dispatched, in case of very strong adventurers) when stampede and other dungeons related accidents happen.
B) the shopkeeper deliberately provided false information in her residence status (a crime in its own, at least where I live) in order to avoid being contacted by authorities AND not be kept accountable for it in the aftermath.

In my book that's enough to put her in the "asshole" category.

@Beregorn what i think is she not a 'mere' adventurer, and to create false information in her residence status is not easy task, moreover a strong person like her....
Goverment wouldn't let her go so easily, its more likely her real identity keep hidden by the company she's working on or the goverment,
just like when she got transferred to MC's new created dungeon that no adventurers beside MC to go there, open a store with nothing to sell, its quite strange actually...
i think she placed there on purpose, to 'observe' that new dungeon...

World is hinted to be semi post-apocalyptic. They lost a lot of resources. And those resources they do have are stretched thin(To the point that even rice is can actually be considered a luxury. And then a nationwide stampede happens forcing the resources to be stretched even thinner). Quite frankly, they probably didn't even wanna send those guys over and focus more on the more critical areas.
Guns require ammo and ammo is finite.

Wasn't this the manga where guns had no or little affect on monsters or was it another one?
I can see that the MC is going battle manic more and more as the manga goes on, I wonder where that leads.

Also it has been established that Mage girl can only use Magic inside the dungeons like MC's status panel.
The lining was great in this chapter, especially the fight between the Boss and MC.

The shopkeeper is selfish as it was shown before and only does things for profit essentially. So I see why she did what she did, however I wonder if this will be a point of tension / drama between her and the MC or town. We don't really know how the organizations and the JSDF work with each other and to what extent.

@Trov There has to be some kind of special forces within the government or military that uses things like enchanted Type 89's (basically JSDF's standard issue rifle but magical). They can be prioritized over other units in that they're the first to be provided with the scarce ammunition and resources available and, hopefully, manufactured.

Just imagine a special forces group wearing gas masks, camouflaged suits enchanted with all the protective and stealthy magic you can think of, a large variety of grenades to choose from, and automatic anti-material rifles ripping dungeon monsters to pieces like tissue paper, and then ripping those pieces like smaller tissue paper, then repeat ad infinitum until you get a dungeon monster smoothie.

Thinking about the things humans can do with chemistry (and maybe some creativity), is burning dungeon monsters (with napalm, promethium, gasoline, etc.) a violation in the Geneva Convention? How about gassing them? Melting them with acid? R-A-D-I-A-T-I-O-N?

There is no combination of Magic and science here. They barely understand much of magic in the first place. It's almost considered a rumor officially. And Magic can't be used so easily outside of the dungeons. It's why Karen tried to use magic in this chapter but couldn't.
Also things like radiation, poison, and flame are clearly not advisable. Not only would you make the dungeons hard to occupy for people, you would contaminate a place to get some desperately needed resources or destroy those resources.
When it comes to what they can and can't do, they are legit walking blind.
And these dungeons started to pop up 5 years ago. So everyone is still fumbling around trying to get the world on track.

Fine then. How about pneumatic crossbows or that one custom bow called the "Instant Legolas"? You could probably make them with the technology and resources at hand (especially the Instant Legolas) and bolts and arrows can be reused if they didn't break on impact. Let's also scale down chemical warfare to less potent options such as tear gas so there's less risk in dying with or without a gas mask. Basically small scale stuff.

Though after seeing the state of that one city (Shinjuku) being overrun, I don't see any other options than rallying really strong adventurers or having the country get nuked a third time to retaliate against that.
