The only thing more boring than this type of romance movies are the other type, on hallmark, with the girl going home for christmas, and falls in love with this obnoxiously handsome guy who’s probably never left his hometown, and gives up her dreams and leaves her high paying city job to be a housewife or work in a small shop with him.
It’s all the same and it drives me crazy when my sister or mom or grandma watches them during christmas time when we’re all together.
Sounds like it's time to dig up Keaton Patti's wonderful work again!

I mean with respect to whether a kiss happens or not, it'll either happen with reservations or won't happen but have them reaffirm their feelings
again... this is not currently the point... and Umi knows that this is not what she wants right now... its not about confirming or reafirming feelings... again.. .they already know it.

MC wants to take it slow because of past problems, and since the setup is already given I don't think its suc ha spoiler to tell that it is related to his parents, more specifically his dad. So without solving this, he doesnt feel like he can jump to a relationship right now.

Thats the whole point of this arc, of why they are still friends even tho Umi knows he likes her and Maehara knows Umi likes him, but his fears are beyond this, so a Kiss right now would be meaningless because wouldnt solve anything.

it would be just "oh kiss... feels nice, but yeah nothing changed we can't start dating now because I still am fucked up" bruh.

Ah yes, totally still just friends. Watching a (bad) romance movie. On a couple seat. While on a date. Perfectly normal friend thing to do.

For the asleep or not debate...

On Page 12 her eyes are still open and she's blushing. Awake there and knowing what she's doing.

On Page 14 her eyes could be either open or closed, but she's blushing heavily so I think she's awake and aware of what she's doing.

I guess we need to wait until the next chapter to find out for sure. It's usually the author being a tease though.

She confessed officially. She's aware he's still processing some things (and the WN makes it much clearer that he's deliberately giving her some space to tighten things up with Yuu during this period as well), so she's OK with a bit of time before he responds properly. But they're a couple in all but name right now.

Umi's switch is always on. It's a matter of whether it stays at ten, goes to eleven or, as it will in the onsen arc, spikes to around a hundred and twelve.
With this, I have a feeling the anime adaptation will be disappointingly boring

I'd love to say that now is not the time for Maki to be playing dense about love, because instead of a genuine date this becomes just more ship teasing. For all intents and purposes they are already a couple, just give up and start dating her already... forget the past, his dad has been out of his life for a year now, don't regret missing out on a sweet teenage romance he'll never get to enjoy again once he's an adult

Our boy realizing movie theaters make for a pretty trash date spot. Or kinda a really good one? Either the movie is boring and just a backdrop to being in a dark room together in public. Or the movie is really good and both of you are so invested you forget each other is there. Or it's just straight up awful and you want to leave immediately but can't because it's a date.

Course I say this as someone partner less. I did feel the "it's only been an hour" so bad. I don't think I've ever seen a romance or a rom-com in theaters and I can't imagine having to sit and watch one of those in mostly silence.

Just wanted to say same so hard. Also because they're so white. And I don't mean as in the movie acts white or anything, but until very recently there's been zero diversity. I'm black and constantly wondered why my mother and sisters ate them up so much. I still see them watching it and there's more black casts and even some black leads now, but that's only very recently and this has been ongoing for as long as they remember. It's also just the same movie over and over again. Just from passing through the living room and seeing a few I've gotten the recognition for precognition of every since movie's plot. It's just not interesting to watch. Not even in a trashy way.

From my understanding people like it for the simple fluff and feel good , but I don't see any fluff and it just seems lazy. Like people are allowed to watch whatever they want, but I will never understand it.

Yeah, and it’s entirely possible to pass out in the middle of one and wake up in another and not be able to tell the difference, that’s how pumpkin spice latte boring they are.

Just recall how thirsty they let Yamada get in BokuYaba. And there's still more of that to come in S3. (Including the now-infamous love hotel visit. And those were middle-schoolers. Have faith.
