As someone who was always obedient when I was younger, I really do like the message the MC is getting from the dad. Because he’s right, even if the situation won’t change, you need to express your displeasure to get over things. It’s not always about finding a solution to the problem but to feel better about it.

He's tried to apply logic to the situation but completely left out his own emotions. I think both parents have taken it the wrong way too, they thought, "He's mature and has accepted it" when it's more he's given up and denied everything. Which is fine and expected. I still don't like that my parents divorced either but I did let them know the situation felt pretty dogshit for a while. Still does really.
