The idea that the peaceful protests should be condemned because they bring forth violence is absurd. To quote King, "Isn't this like condemning the robbed man because his possession of money precipitated the evil act of robbery?",

"it is immoral to urge an individual to withdraw his efforts to gain his basic constitutional rights because the quest precipitates violence."

"Nonviolent direct action seeks to create such a crisis and establish such creative tension that a community that has consistently refused to negotiate is forced to confront the issue. It seeks so to dramatize the issue that it can no longer be ignored"

To consistently deny the progress and development of the Black Lives Matter movement due to the precipitation of violence is beyond disappointing. This direct confrontation and spread of the protests in every facet of life including your games, movies, and manga, does not create tension and hatred, it only reveals it. @Mr_Detective I agree, there are many good people fighting for justice and for human dignity; but there are many who are not, and who choose to submit to ignorance and escapism; for this site to support this action of incredulity is upsetting. The point is not to broadcast these ideals for a positive appearance but to create conflict so that those who do not have a stance are forced to confront reality, or to first realize its existence. We have been subjected to the word "wait" in every protest, which as King exemplifies almost perfectly "This 'wait' has almost always meant 'never.'". Apparently, there is and never will be a better time to take a stand for accountability and human life. As if these same words were not echoed during previous protests. The greatest plague of all, more dangerous than COVID-19, is injustice and destruction of human dignity. When it is seen that police murder and attack unjustifiably and you have seen your race treated as lesser than white, and seen your cries for change mitigated and met with the term "wait", then you can understand this impatience. Suffering stems from this inaction and quietness.

@Tlos
I heard they arrested the guy who filmed it too. I don’t know why you’d do that unless he was in on it.

@BusyGrade
I think you hit the 500 word count.

I'm going to gently remind everyone here to follow our rules. It's been relatively peaceful so far, but I've seen a few posts that toe the line. Let's make an effort to have a civil conversation no matter what our beliefs are.

As for me, I fully support the protests. I believe that finally, *finally* we are getting some traction on shining light on the injustices that minorities face in the US. I haven't joined a protest but my wife and I have donated to the Louisville Bail Fund to help those arrested on the front lines.

Our law enforcement programs desperately need reform, as the beatings and excess uses of force on live, national television has shown. Hopefully this will be another push in the right direction.

Holding massive protests in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic is sheer folly.

In my home country, the police observed for a while a support demonstration, then contacted the organisers and told them that under the current Covid-19 regulations, a gathering that large is still forbidden in order to prevent the virus from spreading uncontrollably. Since I live in Europe, not in the USA, that didn't result in a big fight between the protesters and the police officers. Instead, the organisers informed all the people gathered that as things stand due to the pandemic, they got their time but now must disperse.

@Sep10trion they arrested him bc he was was recording it to defend the McMichaels as well as being a piece of shit by trying to block the victim from escaping, leading him to be charged with felony murder and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment

Domestic issue that should've stayed in the USA, but has spread everywhere anyway because Americans are too narcissistic and can't help but to export their problems to the rest of the world (as usual).
Riots and destruction everywhere in the middle of a pandemic, while celebs, news media, GAMING COMPANIES and fucking health institutions (lmao) are endorsing it when they were all silent during Hong Kong, Uhgyur and other issues.
What makes this whole thing even more laughable is that this whole thing was spearheaded by...... a repeat criminal.
Here's Japanese reaction to this issue: read it if you can read Japanese or just use google translate. everyone is either pissed or laughing at you for how egoistical/hypocritical you are with this whole thing is. I don't know how any non-American could find this NOT funny. America... you're truly amazing... really amazing.

But honestly though, I'm glad it happened. Because it's damn entertaining that's for sure.

@Kanami-chan ah yes, everyone knows that if you committed a crime in the past for any reason, it’s perfectly alright for you to be murdered :)

Thank you MD team for staying neutral, making sure that the platform is used as it's supposed to be. I use MD for the manga, not reading someone's political bs nonsense, go to Twitter for that.

@Kanami-chan thats a ridiculous comparison, american celebs and media can't make china do jack shit but they presumably have more influence over their own government. also lol who cares what japanese people think about this, it doesn't affect them in any way whatsoever.

Political threads are great for fleshing out your block list no matter who you hate, at least.

@BusyGrade Those who choose to stay out of politics for whatever personal reason are within their rights to do so. I don't feel like it's my place to judge people who don't want to get involved with politics or coerce them to do so. Like I said, people are aware of what's going on around them, for the most part. They just don't need to be reminded of something every second everywhere they go or be forced to broadcast what they think because a bunch of spoiled brats whoring brownie points on social media want them to. The police treat "suspects" of all races pretty much the same way. The bad ones will be quick to start blasting and the good ones will always try to be patient and reasonable. And clearly, from the recent videos we've seen, they had no qualms spraying tear gas into these "protestors" when they step out of line, black or not. America has already done a lot for the black community. Not perfect, but not inaction as you stated. At some point, they'll have to learn to judge themselves.

@Kanami-chan I'll have to look up what his records are. What is that site, even...? Is it even a reputable site?
My Japanese is lacking, so it'll take me a while to read everything, but this one stood out to me.

"Why are they preaching morality to us in a game that simulates killing?" Because PR.
I guess you are not supposed to shoot black characters now?

@Ubergeek They influence a bunch of keyboard warriors who can't bother showing up at the voting booth, but love to broadcast how much they love Bernie.
"Who cares what Japanese people think?" Well, the people who aren't Americans on the site don't want to have American politics (or politics of any kinds) shoved down their throat, hence this thread.

I'm glad that MD decided to take a neutral stance and not kowtow to internet politics hysteria, which is generally unamusing and quite frankly displeasing. Not everyone is from the US and it's silly to even arrogantly assume that anyone cares that some black superpredator died in yet another episode of cops being cops in Muhmerica. I do not believe that this is the correct forum to be having that conversation, maybe Twitter is more up your speed, they do love spicy hot takes over there and "correct opinions". If you want to have your BS discussions that are at least mildly relevant to the site, then why is a Chinese comic (or mangook as I like to call it) "manga" ID #1 on Mangadex? Is this webzone owned by 腾讯??? Really makes you think.

Any way, US nationals please stay safe and don't commit crimes. And thank you MD for staying neutral, even if your manga ID system is fucked up.

@ubergeek it does affect everyone at this point, thanks to American sensationalism. "Protests" are happening in bunch of western countries and I saw a BLM woman trying to do it in Japan yesterday with tens of thousands likes on twitter while the replies are full of Japanese shitting and trying to stop her because she might invite potential riot across the country and of course, COVID-19. It's extremely egoistical to say stfu to outside opinion when you (Americans) were the one who brought the problem outside your country in the first place.

@Mr_Detective it's a website that tramslates and shares foreign events, trends and other stuff for Japanese

@Mr_Detective not sure what your point is here. what does bernie (i'm assuming bernie sanders) have to do with this? as for your second point, i'm even more confused. as far as i can tell there's no japanese person in this thread complaining about yanks shoving their politics down their throats and i'm sure nobody is forcing anyone in this thread to post either.

@Kanami-chan eh it seems like you're taking twitter slapfight stuff too seriously. i highly doubt there'll be nationwide blm protests in japan and if there are i'm sure japanese folks will be able to handle their own situation. and what's american sensationalism? whether you like it or not the us is a (some would say the only) global superpower and anything that happens there will eventually have ripple effects on the rest of the world.

@VIII i for one am glad that we have cops to protect us from monsters that fake 20 dollar notes

It's a sad thing that, whenever something big happens in the USA, everyone outside gets dragged into it somehow. And it's really only so big because it happened there. If something similar, something even bigger, happened in another country, not even 1% of all the people, who act all outraged now, would even care.

It's even worse this time, compared to something like 9/11, since it's entirely their own fault. Hate and especially violence are an integral part of American culture. They held onto them even when other (dare I say, actual) first-world countries went away from that, valuing peacefulness more and more, as if Americans lose their entire identity, if they stop being a bunch of violent savages.

Now it's all blowing into their faces and other countries are supposed to pity and support them?

Yeah, screw that. I'm just glad to live in a country that's actually civilized. We have our share of problems, racism included, but it's a paradise in comparison to the hellhole that's the USA.
