Not to be rude to the author, but I've seen something similar where the author is doing great in his/her manga but added some unnecessary drama or arcs into their manga, and it caused the manga to not be good. Meguro-san wa Hajimete ja Nai is a good example.

The mom's surprisingly well-written, because I can understand she believes what she's saying in wanting the best of both of them, but she's fully fucking things up for all of them including herself by pulling all the manipulation and lies this whol stretch of the story.

Makes her just sympathetic enough to keep her from being a cardboard-cutout badly-written antagonistic character, but still making her feel repulsive enough that you want to see her proven wrong and then have to live with the fact her daughter could (presumably) succeed where she failed, explicitly by doing what she was both incapable of doing and refusing to think it could be done.

This, she's such an awful character and I can't say I fully understand her but I get where she's coming from, but good fucking lord those internal dialogue's in the second half of the chapter having her act as a literal chain both A. make me hate her even more and B. are FANTASTIC depictions of this specific kind of doubt/trauma.

Okay i do feel like she would maybe think or act on it but see's how sad he is without her and back off at least that is what i hope will happen if that's the case.

I can see Miyabi doing a half-baked attempt at flirting with Shinba to try to cheer him up but seeing him how miserable he looks like, she actually tries to scold him and force him to be 100% honest with hizumi about showing his "selfish side"

although why i get the feeling orochi and miyabi might end up talking to both of them or miyabi to hizumi (hear dear most hated friend), and orochi to shinba

she is such a good character because she is such an awful character that's written to act that way on purpose

the only way for those inner monologues to hurt more would be if they metaphorically showed her look like she is using a mask or looked like she was transforming into "inner intrusive thoughts hizumi/shinba"

Much as the mom is absolutely horrible and a piece of shit who deserves the worst, she is right. That dude is just a massive loser with no value to provide whatsoever except emotional ig. (Didn't read the whole manga so I could be wrong though it doesn't seem that way) and she is GUARANTEED a life of struggle and strife with him, and it will always weigh down on him. And she wants to keep him that way, strangling him and it will also weigh down on her and potentially stifle him even more.

They just aren't fit for each other if we disregard emotional stuff, being a "kind" person doesn't really pay the bills in this economy. He will always feel inferior and insecure. Better off he leaves, becomes someone with actual worth then maybe pursue her again once he is actually worthy.
