You're probably not going to be thrilled that I do sometimes make such cases myself. Like for example I 100% subscribe to trans Mahiro Oyama. (though I take the position of "any pronoun applies to Mahiro" 'cuz identity isn't always black and white like that, the Onimai anime's OP is all about that even) Though yeah, I hope it goes without saying I don't start smoke if people disagree with my headcanons.

Some of the other examples you offered are genuinely vile even to me. First of all, Oda is awesome. One Piece isn't for me, but he is very much a good bean. And I genuinely do feel my stomach turn anytime I hear people implicitly demand anime or manga be written differently -- they don't seem to realize their own internalized colonialism by antagonizing creators overseas. One has to be careful when you're part of a marginalized group because it's very easy to come to think you're above holding prejudiced attitudes yourself.

As to how often you run into other LGBT folks who seem standoffish or hostile? The only good explanation I have is that the community is progressive politically and... thus skews younger with its most vocal members. Lots of early 20-somethings and such. Decades ago I was a rather clumsy firebrand myself, it's just sort of a young person thing. Over time I calmed down and realized it's just not productive. Also that assuming hostility from others by default is the quickest way to engender it. (pun not intended but I'm leaving it in anyway) In any case, I'd beg you to not take it too personally if you're able. They're way, way way more scared of you than vice versa I sincerely promise.

No, we had gay and lesbians in manga for decades now, look at Cardcaptor Sakura as a now older example but then we have Yamato were some people are applying "my truth" and if you dont understand what I mean by that I shall explain ... Yamato is female, she acted like Oden but that was the extent of it but people of course decided she was trans ... and then Oda put out information that Yamato is female but the people with that trans headcanon didnt taken it very well and a very small loud obnoxious minority tries to make it so Yamato is trans despite the author saying otherwise.

We seen what they did to comics, we seen what they are doing to our culture so we are very sensitive when they try to apply that kind of western woke logic to manga and believe me, they are because nobody really given a shit about Yamato gender until once again became a attempt to enforce headcanon as fact.

Also keep in mind this aint a Yuri or Yaoi manga or a series that touches that, its a comedy and the butt of the joke is the genderbend ... its not to be meant as serious, the audience isnt interested in "is thief trans?" because its not asking that question to begin with and they are also not very likely interrested in Yaoi or Yuri series and even if they are, they have at least the courtesy of keeping that out of the discussion but then we have the people that have to inject politics into everything and at this point we are oh so very tired of it.

Not everyone will like seeing that discussion, but that's the breaks. No amount of swatbots with "no fun allowed" signs are gonna stop me.
