Can't remember it now, but I recall one manga where a proverb had note next to it saying something like, "<other world> idiom localised to Japanese for the readers". To which the scanslation added another note saying, "Japanese idiom localised to English for the readers".We can date it a bit better than that; the proverb she's quoting ("Sī fuerīs Rōmae, Rōmānō vīvitō mōre") dates from sometime around the 400s CE. Or possibly translation convention is in effect, and she's referring to a similar proverb (Like "Nomos ho pantōn basileus"/"custom is king") for which we wouldn't have any context.
