I'm a little confused as to why they'd think that all mana would disappear from the world, anyway. I thought it was already established before this that the demon in this dungeon was just one of many (whether individual entities, or aspects of the same overarching Thing), so all defeating this demon would do would be to cause the mana from this dungeon (which had spilled out into the world) to disappear. But we know there's other dungeons out there, so they should still be supplying mana anyway.
