Considering that the runes are supposed to make it so that people can wield the corresponding rank of artifact in a world where the existence of magic is forgotten by most people, and those who are capable of using it only have a rudimentary grasp of it, our MC should be able to wield any rank of artifact because she has a perfect level of magic control carried over from her past life. i.e. she doesn't actually need a rune.
Well, it seems Inglis used her knowledge to cancel the writing of the rune. She certainly has the power, probably just manipulated the box so that it didn't write a rune to her hand. Not sure that's the best strategy, but oh well.
Good decision! She has no use for a rune, since that thing's only purpose is to channel her ether into a specific form - something she is perfectly capable of doing without the rune simply because of her magic knowledge and senses. A rune would only be a hindrance due to restricting the usage she can apply.
Obviously that means that she will now have to go down the old route of the "ostracized but breaking through the discrimination by sheer power"-cliché.
@Liedral It's more like when you put a sheet of paper on someone's art and trace it. MC can actually manipulate her mana and probably the device as well.
So... If comparing it RPGs, she basically skipped the change class at level 10? So she can still wield any weapon of her choice and get any skills since she has no specific class? Did I get that right?
And since she can control/manipulate her ether, she has no need for the rune to kill monsters.
she doesnt think it quite through
Better put a low grade rune instead no rune at all to avoid suspicion
Because there's no way a no-rune able to fight and win with eyes closed
