It makes me smile to see Lerunda wholeheartedly encourage Gaius, who's understandably feeling this way because his "equal partner" has been achieving all these amazing things. But he shouldn't be sweating it that much: she's technically special, being the Miko and he's a seemingly ordinary kid (whose heart is in the right place and trying his best to be something). They may not be equals in achievement (yet) but what matters is whether they both see and treat each other as equals irrespective of achievement or social status.

I guess this is where what Lan said before about the Miko being able to choose her "knights" come into play. She might have just bestowed a special blessing on Gaius if it's not a special trait or something from his end.
