I assume the assasin is from the future too, and future people learned about the attack and sent the andriod too, to avoid the time line changing or something. But they should probably know the result, although maybe it takes a bit of time for the change to take effect?

Consider that Skynet didn't even know which Sarah Connor to kill originally, the Terminator went straight down the list from a phone book. Whatever sent this thing back knew Gori-sensei needed to die but it didn't know, and neither did the ones sending one to save him, that nowhere near enough firepower was sent back to do the job.
